one light, on a stand around the rear wheel about 10 feet out.
second light off to the nose of the vehicle
(i also used a third light in some pictures super low to the left of the front umbrella)
different positioning and use of lighting.

This is going to piss Yokota off, but he's always angry anyway so no matter...
Poor use of strobes. The 2nd to last shot is decent, but other than that there is very little that is interesting going on as far as contrast & shadows with the way you have the car lit in relation to the camera angle.
Its hard to tell from such small images but you should have definitely gone with a smaller aperture for the last photo (back of the car is too out of focus for my taste), and not washed the color out so much on the tires/side of the jeep.
What might have been cool is an interior (to the jeep) light source, or something from behind so that your photo doesn't look like someone applied a fade-to-black linear gradient on the whole thing (which is the point of lighting from different angles, is it not)?
If this was your first attempt, then sorry if my opinions/criticism sound harsh.

I think the third shot looks very nice. The whole car is in focus. The backdrop might not be the best but it is still a very nice display of strobe work.
Saying its a "Poor use of strobes" might be a little to harsh.
But like you said, im sure this is yokata's first time using strobes. So i say keep at it.
its not. i wasnt doing a real shoot. i had a few requets from various people to illustrate how i would strobe something impromptu (basic kit)
i had no tripod
two flashes that worked consistently (one of my 430s arent being nice)
so i had to run handheld, 2.8 and 250SS
point of lighting from different angles is to get rid of shadows. like form pic 2 to pic 3.
I didnt have to use umbrellas, but i was getting pissed off with the bare flashes becuase the light wasnt falling where i wanted since i didnt have all my modifiers with me (again, impromptu setup) so i just threw on the brellas and did it.
can it be better? yes. but it was 33* and its the best you get
Now I just need lighting haha. This was my attempt with tail lights back when I sucked more (still suck, but not as much) haha.
I also attempted some headlight lighting, only problem was it was overexposing and it was aimed too low.

Umm no. There is no need to run 250ss, tripod or 2.8.

250ss will help the background not expose
tripod is so i dont have to use lights
and 2.8 is becuase i didnt HAVE a tripod to run smaller, without lights.
please share your differnet methods. everyone can learn something

Some guy who talks alot of shit, but I have yet to see him back up his knowledge with evidence
and i do 1/60 at f/8 handheld at the track. but if i did the setup how i wanted to, i would have used a tripod, less power on teh lights, with modifiers i wanted, and a longer shutterspeed.
but like i said, share your methods, everyone has a different way

There is no need to shoot at 2.8. You could have shot 125 or a tad slower, second curtain sync, ISO 200, and ~F5.6 and been fine and the background would not have exposed.
