Default Canon EOS purchase advice needed.

Thinking of picking this one up since it has more FPS than the ones I currently own. Any reason this camera may not be a good purchase? 6.5 FPS, etc. is more than I currently need but 5 FPS is minimal so this one stands out.

I have several now including Canon, Nikon, Olympus E-volt and even a Sony A200K so I am not bias by brands.

Canon - EOS 10.1MP Digital SLR Camera - Black
    Model: EOS 40D | SKU: 8472244

    All suggestions/opinions welcome.

    Thanks in advance,

    Chris

Nothing at all wrong with this one Chris but look at picking up a used one. You can get a sweet deal on one as soon as the 50D is in full release. Are you going to be using this to shoot at the track?

Yes Sir, The drag strip, ATV racing/jumping, dirt track racing, snow boarding, etc. The E-Volt 500 I have does a great job but looking for more FPS than anything.

THen yeah, it will work fine. I use the one prior to it, 30D, and it does a good job. Once you get to low light situations then you will need to have a fast focusing lens. I know out at Commerece when you get to twilight it gets rough unless you have a fast lens.

me too. i want a 5dmkII pretty bad.

as far as the 40d i think you will be ok with it. its pretty quick as far as burst, it handles higher ASA than your 30d (i think...im pretty sure the 40d goes to 6400) and it still accepts EF and EF-S lens series, leaving you with plenty of options. Go for it if you can get a good deal....

    Thanks guys.

I think I am going to get the Olympus 520 to upgrade from my 500, the 40D for track events and the Olympus SP-570 UZ for my next POS I mean P&S.

seriuosly. think about that. its not really an upgrade. i dont really know what you are saying. you are going to upgrade to an olympus 520, AND buy a 40d? You will be totally set with a 40d.

I am with the other Phtogs. First I was like retire XTi to backup and get 40D. Oh wait 50D is coming out. Oh wait 5dmkii is coming out I can get 5d for cheap...

    HMMMMM

    Right now I think 50D w/ 17-40 f/4L and XTi w/ 70-200 f/4L would be a great walk around combo haha

The 40d would be mine and mine only but the Olympus 500 I loan to our kid's at times. The 40d would not be a loaner by any means. The 500 takes awesome pictures but was going to upgrade only because I am getting a good deal on it.

The 50d is definitely of interest but with it coming out I was thinking the 40d will have a much better price range.

Thanks for the comments/advice, they are greatly appreciated.
