    Default First Attempt at IR...

My first dabble into IR photography. For those of you that dont know, IR is Infrared. Capturing the light that you cant see with your eyes. The picture is semi-natural, only used photoshop to increase the contrast of the b/w and add color to the sky. Due to the infrared filter being black, the natural pictures come out mostly red. The white trees were not photoshoped. That is, rather, the infrared light reflecting from the trees and being absorbed by the branches, turning them black (or deep dark red from the natural picture). Unless you have a modified camera (I just paid 700 bucks for this thing so i dont think i'll be messing with it) you have to take long exposures to get past the IR filter on the camera. Thats why the trees are a little bit blurry. On w/ the pic!!!!

This is basically what comes out of the camera. Afternoon is the optimal time of day for this kind of thing (more infrared light. but u cant see that!)

wait. So your camera is converted or you are using a filter? I thought about buying a D40 and having it converted, but if I can do it cheaper, I would be interested.

Im using a filter, BUT you can get a better picture if you use a converted camera, but costs about as much as the camera does to convert it and it ends up being pretty much useless for normal photography. so if you're goin that route, find you a CHEAP D40 or D70 or somethin. Im using a Hoya RM72, picks up wavelengths of 720nm and greater, RM90 is 900nm and greater. thats your best bang for the buck IR filter tho. there are others, but $ goes up

I actually like the motion blur in #1. Nice shots. IR looks fun but I can't see it being worth the trouble of modding a DSLR.

Actually, if you're a wedding photographer shooting in b/w, it shows SO much better contrast than normal color b/w
