Default Aquarium Pics (56k insert fork in eye)

Ok, well I'm trying to teach myself low light photography and RAW image shooting (which I am now convinced was a gift from God handed down to save humanity from ugly rgb conversions!). Sooo... I went to the aquarium. Here are a few of my shots. I will update as I have time to go through more pictures.

Unless I say otherwise, these were all shot on my Digital Rebel XTi with a 50mm f1.8 wannabe cheapy macro lens. BTW -- suggestions welcomed... encouraged even.

    Enjoy:

yeah... the gar's snout was so long that I was having a hard time getting the whole thing in focus.. if I stepped too far away, all you'd be able to see would be the reflections and scratches on the glass. I am not shmart enough to figure my way around that one yet.

the 50 doesn't really work too well as a macro, not from what I have experienced, but its great for shallow dof work

What would you recommend? I have a 17-40mm f4L, but it can't handle that low a light source, and I couldn't afford the 16-35mm 2.8L.

Is there any way to get a wider focus angle with that level of macro shot?

i can't really recommend anything. i haven't quite got the budget to lay down money for a nice lens yet, and the 50mm 1.8 just made it into my camera bag about a month ago, but i do like the lens. i just wish the kit lens would go to 1.8 also.
