So...I finally got around to taking one of my hobbies other than cars. So...figured I'd post up my other toys. Sorry the pictures are a little blurry. Didn't realize til after that the lens has a nice fingerprint on it...but didn't wanna re-take all the pictures.

I'll also do a VERY minor write up on them in which some people may find useful if they're looking at this stuff...

PLEASE NOTE: Yes, I do have live rounds in the photos. When taking these photos, the chamber/bolt was NEVER closed when a live round was in the chamber. I don't have dud rounds, and the rounds were only used to show basic operation and setup.

Anyways, to start, here's pictures of my .40cal S&W model SW40VE. I purchased it new, and prices on this particular pistol run about 300-400$ depending on where you go. It's a great gun, although alot of people don't seem to like it for accuracy. However, a guns accuracy, in my opinion, is more in the shooter than it is the gun. The gun shoots GREAT for me despite it's 4" barrel up to probably about 15yards where it starts shooting loose groups. Shoots about as accurate cold as it does hot. I use 180gr hollow points by winchester for home protection (which I'll be switching to star-fire soon) and when I go to the range, I shoot just range-rounds. Again...those range rounds are where I got my accuracy from. I can only imagine a higher-quality bullet. When shooting, I was at Ed's (now Nick's) gun range in Marietta, so that'll familiarize you with the lighting/windage (or lack thereof) I shoot with.

Nonetheless, I would reccommend this gun. It's a basic and simple design, although it has no safety. It's pocket-change friendly, and is easy to clean, and again...shoots well for a sub-compact. However, I plan to sell this before too many more rounds go through it. I want either a glock 23, or a Sig 226, or a Beretta 92fs...but the beretta will be provided for me when I sign with the Marines.

Second up is my WWII M1 .30 Carbine w/ wood stock. As you can see, the wood stock has been VERY well preserved. I keep it oiled and cleaned after every visit to the range, and the metal is being preserved with a sock. It has been passed down 3generations, now. The rifle has never been mounted with a scope (if you even can) and I've only shot iron-sights. It's the only way I'll shoot a rifle of this sort. It fires a .30carbine round, and is a bolt-action rifle. Cleaning this thing is a b*tch, though, to clean it CORRECTLY. For these pictures, I did clean it all the way. The old rounds you see are several years old, though. The targets you'll see posted at the end...my buddy and I were comparing our shots. 5rounds each. The target was sent at the far end of the range (I believe it to be about 40yds) and again, were shot in POOR lighting through the iron sights. I was aiming at the inner-corner of the "L" to the top and left of the bulls-eye. Else, it's a great gun. Not alot of kick, and fun to shoot and ALWAYS turns heads when I visit the range.

I've seen it, I just haven't jumped on the bandwagon, yet. I don't know how much time I'll have when I leave for boot and beyond.

My next purchase, though, will probably be an AR15 for longer-range shots, and weighted. It'll be setup for one hell of a long range shot. Either that, or it'll be a pistol...likely the sig 226.

man that s+w is pretty plastic heavy lol. That is probably why it isnt rated real high on accuracy because lighter gun= more recoil. Still looks good. As for the ar-15 just pick up an sks they are cheaper and alot of fun. When you are rdy to get another handgun check out this company. I carry the steel .45 witness. Its a little heavy but very accurate.

I've got that same S&W. You should get you a Hogue grip for it. Just get one for a glock. I was amazed at how much it improved my accuracy.

Yes, indeed, it IS plastic heavy which I wasn't happy about...but I figured it'd be a fun starter gun. I'm used to my dad's .357 S&W. Looks like one of the ones straight out of the western movies. Love it...but didn't want a revolver, yet. Nonetheless, the gun shoots pretty well. It DOES have a good bit of recoil, but with the right arm-build, it can easily be snapped back down to fire another round. When I go to the range saturday, I'll try to get a rapid-fire target. AR15 vs. SKS...I'm just very comfortable with the AR15 operation and cleaning. It was somewhat my job to clean M16's and mock m16's about a year ago. But a real M16 is far more expensive than an AR15.

Well, I don't know how much longer I'll keep the gun. It was a great gun for the...about 200rds I've put through it. But I'm ready to step up my game for something I can modify the trigger with. My only real complaint about this gun is how long the trigger pull is. My rifle is probably 4mouse clicks in length...i don't know about how much in weight. The ar15 my buddy has is literally a mouseclick. I can't remember how much he said it was in weight, but...good god. It was modified by a USMC sniper, and is just BARELY legit for competition. If that gives you any idea how light it is, let me know, cuz I can't remember.

very true. HUGE difference. Right now I have 130gr. Hydroshock rounds in my carry. They shoot straight as fuk and have damn near no recoil.

I have the same gun. All black but its the SW40e. Read up on it and it was used for law enforcement. thats why it holds more rounds. yours is 10+1 in the chamber correct? and .40 cal. Mine is a .40 cal and holds 14+1. Bought it from bullseye in lawrenceville! i like it but i want to go back to a glock as well!

what cal do you shoot? if you're shooting a .40 cal and shoot less than 180gr, then you really might as well go back to 9mm....seriously.

It's a .40cal. The thing about 180gr. rounds is that there is so much lead packed in such a small casing that all the bullets arent made exactly identical thus resulting in inconsistant accuracy. The reason I got the 130gr. bullets is because they are highly accurate and fire at a very high rate of speed compaired to a bullet that is 50gr. heavier. Even though I am sacrificing the amount of impact, I have 15 rounds to unload. If it comes down to it, I'll at least slow the person down with the first 5 rounds, then unload the rest into their face.

BTW, is 180gr. not the largest .40 cal round?

really don't want to get into the details of this but there's plenty of info out there about the FBI's testing that was done on .40 cal rounds. one of the best you can get is the federal hst 180gr ammo. you can debate all you want but all i'm saying is, the facts are already out there, the rest is up to you

It's definitely NOT a bolt action, nor was it used in WW2 (not that one, anyway). The M1 carbine is a semi-auto gas operated rifle originally designed to be a replacement for the 1911 .45 cal pistol. The idea was that cooks, engineers, and other support personnel would be more effective at fending off attacks with a lightweight, small caliber rifle then with a large caliber pistol. The increased accuracy of a rifle made up (arguably) for the decreased stopping power of the .30 carbine round as opposed to the .45 ACP in the 1911.

Depending on the name on top of the receiver, it's probably a copy of the M1 carbine made by one of several companies after WW2 using a mix of surplus GI parts and new production.

NOT trying to flame you, but that's almost certainly not a GI rifle. It's in REALLY good shape, though and as long as it's one of the better brands, it's still worth a good bit, esp in that cond. Semi-autos are by definition not bolt action.

I've never seen a "Springfield" manufactured carbine, there's a list of makers there who made parts during the war, then a list who made commercial copies, it should be on one list or the other. I'd be interested to see a pic of the markings on the receiver.
