Really? I'm still new at the camera, but I have a friend who is willing to give me the lens, Figured I'd give him $20 or so for it.

Its not a bad lens. It just has issues with purple fringing. As a starter lens, its got good range. However, its also very slow.

    I'd give it a 3.5 out of 10

I have the 70-300, i'm assuming that's what you meant?

yeah like george said, it's really slow but it has been fine for me, i paid 150 for it so if you can get it for 20, then why the hell not?

Yeah, in all honesty, I'd get ANY compatible lens I could if it was only $20 unless I already had the same focal lengths only superior.

Very slow. But for $20 or even $25 not a bad deal for shooting something in the bright day light.

Yeah, I only have the 18-55 nikon lens for now, I figured for the price I could at least try it, I see it going for way more on e-bay.

Dont ever get rid of your 18-55 , unless you step up your lens budget, the ED glass is the sharpest glass Nikon produces. Unlike Canon's, Nikon places sharp glass in their kits.

Be careful with the quantaray 70-300 because i work at a camera repair shop and we get alot of those coming in because they have auto focus issues or they lock up. If you get it from your friend, see if they got the 5-year warranty too. But for $20, if it's not having any problems i'd jump on it

He told me it was manual focus?

Says the lens was used for maybe 100 shots, says works great, he is jut basiclly giving away all this camera stuff.

if it's not an auto focus lens you cannot use it on a digital SLR. but all auto focus lenses do have a manual focus switch too

Well he uses it for his d40, so maybe he is mistaken, he's pretty new at cameras too, and getting out of it.

eh? as in it doesn't mount up or what? Not sure about Nikon but I know lots of people with Canon SLR lens on their DSLR, autofocus doesn't work but who cares when you can get a high quality lens for dirt cheap...

Never used Quantaray, but for $20, I'm sure the added creative outlet, and flexibility will justify the cost.

yeah but it's still an af lens. if it's just a manual focus lens then it's used for 35mm cameras. all af lens have contacts that will mount up with film slr and digital slr cameras.

when the auto focus doesn't work of course you can still use it on manual focus.

bur regardless if the guys uses it on his d40 then it's fine

Just picked up the lens, It is an autofocus lens, But I know why he said it was manual focus, cause the lens is for a D80....It works on the d40 but manual only, and that sucks.

Sometimes you have to put tape over one of the contacts to fool the camera body...

Nikon forums? I have no idea, I only know it works on certain Canon body/lens combos.
