Talking Cool pictures using strobes in bright sunlight

I got a new camera for Father's day, and I got to play with it on yesterday. It's a Nikon D200. My old one was a D70. These were taken around 3pm in bright sunlight. I used a wide angle lens 10-20mm and a SB-800 flash unit in a small softbox camera left. I metered the background to be underexposed by one stop or so and fired the flash to overpower the sun straight on. That's why they kind of have a weird surreal look to them. Not much post processing was done on them besides basic levels and sharpening. I had the in-camera's saturation, and sharpening bumped up and color mode III enabled.
