    Default New Lens, untouched pics...

Was just curious what it would do, test shots handheld at 300mm in full manual mode as a jpeg then resized, not shot raw and no changes what so ever on photoshop...think i'm in love. Can't wait to try it out in raw with a tripod and a lil PS

ok, couldn't stand it, had to touch them up a bit...I should have shot both raw and jpeg then compared the two. i'll try it next time. This is with Filter - Sharpen (which i always do an unmask instead) and Auto Levels (which i never do)

    Still handheld @ 300mm

1x Zoom FTW, every point & shoot in the world can say they have something on me now I'm looking for a 1.4x or 2x teleconverter to make it 420 or 600mm.

Nice. The last duck pic is on the money. Great shot.

When you go get the converter, be sure and take your stuff with you and try it ON before you buy. I noticed that the Canon's were finicky, while the Sigmas weren't. I'm not sure yours is an IS, but I've read somewhere that on IS lenses the converters don't let the AF feature work.

    Congrats on your new buy.

BTW, looking at your meet pics from the other night inspired me to go out and do some night shooting myself for the first time. I'll be posting those up in a minute. I liked the shots you took, so I'm trying some new things to catch up.....

The AF on the 2x TC doesn't work with certain body/lense combo's but the 1.4x normally does with all (you can put a piece of tape on a couple of the pins to get around it though) but I have the chart somewhere with every lens & body combination and what works and doesn't.

It's the 300mm F/4 L IS, wanted a f/2.8 but that's about $4k Researched and researched and found this 300mm prime with a 1.4x is far more crisp @ 400mm than the 400 f/5.6 L, 100-400mm L, and the 70-200 f/2.8 L with a 2x TC...not to mention faster focusing too. Of course it's useless anywhere but the track and wildlife but since that's 2 things i shoot the most it only makes sense. Next on the list is your 70-200 f/2.8 L IS though!

Yeah, I knew I'd read that somewhere too. I haven't used mine in forever. I should've used it last night to do the moon shots....

Very nice piece. I would like to eventually get me something similar.

You'll love the 70-200. It's so versitale that it really is cool to work with, although at the track you'll have the extra reach with the 300.

What I'd like to really get next is the Mark 1Ds......but we all can wish can't we???

Never used one at the track but if all goes as planned we should be using 1Dn Mark II's. Since I don't go out and machine gun fire the 8 or 5 fps doesn't really matter to me...I don't like playing the numbers game. I'd rather take 250 shots with 75% of them come out then 1000 with only 20%, if that makes any sense. All depends on the mood though and what sort of creative techniques i wanna test out that day. Can't wait to get some car action with this new one!

    Thanks for all the comments!
