Batlground Racing @ IRL, WDC Drift Demo this past weekend!

Dan and I just got back from a drifting demo @ the IRL race at the Honda grand Prix (the Streets of St. Peterburg) that was put together by the WDC. This was the second year we were invited. I didn't get to drive in the demo last year due to car problems, so I was super excited to have the opportunity this year.

The other drivers in attendance were Rob Flemming (XAT racing), Travis Deems (Stage 6 Motorsports), Blake Fuller (owner Braille Batteries) andThe driver of the drifting Honda (I forgot his name). Tim Moceri (from Ter-Tech) came the last day to join in on the fun.

It was amazing. There was about 200k spectators in attendance for the weekend. The track is actually on the streets of St. Pete. We did 3 demonstartions in 3 days. We got to drive the entire track, although obviously only certain corners are drift-able

It's almost a 2 mile long track.

Dan and I got in the paper (I have to scan the article but will have it up tomorrow) and had a good interview for the local news channel. www.octanetv.com will produce 15 shows from the weekend. These shows can also be seen on-demand on octane TV. There will also be shows on the Fox Adreneline TV. It will take about a month for the shows to air, but I will post them as soon as they are available.

Dan and I got to chill with Mike Horvath, the Crew Chief for Marco Andretti-NYSE, Andretti Green Racing. He was so cool. They actually let us use their rig to fix an issue we had with Dan's car. Their set up is amazing....of course! When I grow up I want a trailer like that!

I have the black wheels on my car. Dan has the silver. I'm sure more will pop up in the next few days and I will be sure to update our gallery to include them. Brady www.bradystribling.com should have a ton of pics in the next few days. He came with us. I'm sure the coverage will end up in S3 magazine (he shoots for them).

Thanks! It was amazing. There were yots like 50 feet from the track. There were condos that overlooked the entire track. The IRL guys loved the driving, so that was cool.

It's kind of funny. Everyone thought it was a Scion XB at the event. He did really good when the car was running. It had a few issues including the wheel snapping off over a rumble strip. Whoops!

Matt, yes he did. W eare going to try to come. Maxxis may be paying us to make it to a bike show at St. MTN the same day.

The Honda is factory backed. It is driven and built by Honda Factory Engineers. They were at the event this weekend. I never heard it was going to be in FD. The have a few sponsors but according to the engineers, they don't like to have too many sponsors because they don't want to "endorse" other companies thru Honda.

The Element also had the smokie-ist tires But it may be because it weighs 3000 lbs (I think they said). People kept asking them if it had the potential to flip while drifting...but all of the wirht is on the bottom 1/2.
