Just bought a Nikon D40!!

thanks man, that a real compliment coming from a man with your skill.. Im tryin though, those were the better ones of the first 20 i took with the cam.. tomorrow is another day, im gonna be on it after i get home from work...

it was funny i went to wolf camera one day just too look.. and i asked the guy about the nikons.. and just to see what he said i asked "if i want to get into photography, is it better to buy like a lower end nikon like the 40, or just dive right in as get the 80?"

of course the sales pitch began on the 80 lol.. i cracked up inside... (i know the 80 is a better camera... but just wanted to see how honest the guy was.. or if he was just tryin to get my money..)

It's pretty simple, you get the best body you can afford if you know you'll be buying lenses down the road. Sometime soon this year i'll have 2 to 4x the amount of money in lenses as I do in my camera body.

Then it depends on the features you need or will use. 3 AF points or 45 in a $8k 1Ds Mark II? How many round burst do you really need, etc. At 6MP the D40 is plenty for high quality 8 x 10 prints or maybe even larger.

Killer, you may see this camera for what... $500 right or less. Sounds good right? Well the glass is your most important part of your setup. I bought my camera with a kit lens for $1000, well the lens I use now is the VR 18-200 and it was close to $1000. If you buy a SLR you need to be ready for a lens to. Dont let the low price of a good body full you, unless you are ready to spend some money on new glass!

^ Absolutely correct.

When it comes to DSLRs your camera is only as strong as your strongest lens.

If you buy an amazing body such as a 1DmarkIIn or Nikon D2X, and you pick up a wolf camera brand lens, it wont matter what settings you use, a lower end body with an L lens or ED Nikon grade lens will out perform in visual sharpness and color reproduction.

Also, Wolf Camera is not gonna help you with any info or where to begin. If you go in there with a set price on a Body(say a d40) you want, then there gonna try and sell you a Nikon D2x. They just want your money. I went into 3 wolf camera stores Friday just for a singal thing and no one could help me or they didnt have what I was looking for! Everyone of them had to use a cheat sheet when I asked them about a few lenses.

I have grown to dislike them and there employees! No Help!

yeah, i know that.. i was just seeing what the dude was gonna say.. seeing if he would actually try to help.. or just make money...

i'd like to grab a d40... (it'll be awhile before i can) and i know the lenses are the most expensive part..., but i also don't need the best right away... it's gonna be for my use.. and not to try to make money off of. so i won't need top notch equipment.. u should know by now though rush, when i buy stuff like that i don't go cheap... no off brand crap.. i'll just have to do this slower... lol.

Its not that they are the most expensive part, its that there the most important part! Just like Nemesis said, your camera is only as good as your lens is(worded a lil different)

I could take a D2X nikon($4000+ Camera) and take a shot with a $200 lens and then take a D50($400) and take a shot with $600 lens and the pic from the D50 would be a lot better!

If I was you I would just buy the Body only, and then find a lens! Dont get the kit lens!
