    Default Fishy Question

My girlfriend has one of those fish that is kept by itself at the pet store. What is their deal again? They can't be placed with their OWN kind or can't be placed with any fish? i've got a soft heart for all animals and want to take him back to my house to my fish tank. I have only 3 fish in a 25gallon tank. 2 are community and one is a sucker fish. so, friendly fish.

so...yay or nay on adding him to my tank?

Yea, Beta fish, I don't think it would be a good idea to take it home and put it in your tank with other fish.

um not a good idea to put it in the tank with the others. The whole mirror thing is funny tho.

it's a beta fish and it is a male. they only sell the males. and yeah they have to be in an individual tank, always. they will fight any other kind of fish, including itsself if it sees it's own reflection in a mirror.

Ok, I even added a female beta to my male and he kept running her off. Now I did a test a year or so ago.I had ALL passive fish except a crawdad, everyone leaved in peace and I put food on the botom for the crawdad so he left everyone alone. Now I added a beta to this and the beta is FINE if all fish were passive but as soon as he saw the crawdad he started bullying him around. After 2 days I thought I should take the beta back and the crawdad has taking enough of it. Well before I could get the beta the crawdad jumped up and grabbed his ass and ate him.So long story short all passive fish that are NON threating looking it may work. I do have another beta now and I named him rodney. When I cleaned out his tnak yesterday and I couldnt find the alge eater, so weird.

Betas (Siamese Fighting Fish) can be kept with other fish. The other fish must be passive and not the types that nip at fins. Betas like shallow, stagnant and warm water, they live in nature in rice patties and puddles along rivers.

The biggest problem with putting them in a community tank is the water movement. They like to sit, not swim constantly. They prefer water of 75 degrees or more.

They can live in a 2-3 gallon tank with no filtration, just water changes every other week and be perfectly fine.

No other Betas in the same tank, of course. Female Betas are ugly, they don't really care to hang out with each other too often.

Not exactly, only that they could live with passive fish.

I practically grew up in the pet store my dad owned and worked in another for a couple of years during college. Anyways, just trying to help out with stuff I know.

Ive had a male beta in a 20 gallon with other fish and he was fine. As long as there aren't any other male betta's.
