well, i'm a noob to posting on this site, usually just casually browse looking for car stuff to buy (got a 96 240) I know peter...haha, but anyway, this religion forum has been interesting. I have sat here for about 2 hours just reading away at a bunch of stuff and figured I would share a bit. Grew up in the formal pentecostal church, my dad actually was a preacher too, but he grew to despise lots of the "restrictions" that attempted to make us more holy, yet only planted seeds of curiousity leading to sin. Therefore, he broke off and started his own nondenominational church. Now growing up as a pk in combination with a jamaican heritage, meaned having a very disciplined and sheltered childhood, yet I grew up to fall in love with knowledge. Knowledge that is tangible, (can be seen felt and understood) but moreso knowledge that is beyond my senses.
So being very much so in that aspect of my life and being very much so a Christian, I have some questions, but I wonder what things people have found to be contradictory about the Bible and how some people are so convinced of no higher authority. Someone mentioned here (could have been in another thread) that Christianity is crutch if you mold yourself to a groups thought, because you no longer can develop a personal realtionship with God or anything, but are confinded to the thoughts of a group, thus losing any individuality.
And a quote comes to mind from Bruce Lee saying "Don't get set into one form, adapt it and build your own, and let it grow, be like water. Empty your mind, be formless, shapeless — like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water my friend." This is where I attempted to start, I have spent nearly a year questioning the semantics of Christianity and have had a quite impossible time finding contradictory things that indeed are contradictory. Now the challenge here is that Christianity does not call for you to be like water through and through, but once you understand it and make it your own, you become what Bruce Lee is actually talking about, a strong being not easily swayed.
And i can see why many people easily see contradictory things also because when they are in a group and have formed themselves to that group, when anything challenges them, they can easily be turned-off because they have never given the time to figure it out themselves and thus label things as contradictory and people as hypocrites, while for example the turned-off are being a hypocrite themselves by Christian standards because they have just judged somebody as being a hypocrite (not supposed to judge). Now please, do not see this as a wow he is trying to convert or whatever, but I want you guys who are quick to respond that there is no God or that the Bible is wrong and even for you all who believe you are Christian to seriously ask yourself if you have made any individual endevours to justfiy it all for yourself. And this thing is really longso sorry about that....and if you don't feel comfortable posting in truth, there is no need to flame the thread with confidence that you are right b/c you are, but be challenged to think, then post...peace
