    Default Official Photogrpahy Shoot Ideas

Ok guys, there are a few of us that want to do some shooting so do we want to have a little get together or maybe some kind of a contest. I know a few of us are new to DSLR's (me included) and might need a little help on somethings so it might be a cool idea for the first couple of outings we do something together so we can learn a little more then we can jump into the contest amongst each other.

As for the contest here is what I had in mind.
We each take one pic that we like that we think is the best (only photoshopping allowed will be resizing) and will do a anonymous poll with the pics. So put no names, copyrights, or anything like that on the pic but just resize it to an 800 pixel long side. I will make a poll and post up the pics for people to vote on and we will let the poll run for 3 days and that will decide the winner. Sound cool?

As for the first few outings, what are some locations that you feel would be good for us to meet up at and practice taking pics? This will need to be done on a sat. or sunday preferably unless it is night shooting then we can add friday night.

honestly i have no clue about a location. there is stuff to take pics of almost anywhere u go. I was think about walking through the woods this weekend. I am going to put up a gallery in a hall way. I am going to have about 5 B&W photos, mostly of closeup items so the person looking at it will not really know what to think. The phtos will be based around contrast, light and composition. so we will see how that goes.

we could steal some contest ideas from other sites.

Yeah so that is a little bit more advanced than what I was talking about, lol. I have seen what you are talking about but it was done with female bodies and a white background. Very cool shots and really makes you think when you look at them.

What about meeting up at say downtown Marietta, doing some shots there (architectural, city life, people) and just practice?

I got a couple of sites where I can jack some contest ideas.

i did some downtown stuff.... modern architecture sucks guys, hate to break it to ya lol

lets come up with a contest "theme" that will get our brains ticking.

I enjoy anything with shapes and contrasting light.

Downtown shots are nice but I want something different. I want to build a full portfolio of different things and places.

I like the photojournalist style of shooting, so we should do a shoot at like the aquarium but shoot something that's not so obvious (like the fish). We could shoot people, architecture, different angles, etc.

The only problem would be that we may need the aquarium's permission to shoot like that. Someone may get anxy at a bunch of people walking around shooting at them and not the cute fish.

Now that would be cool, that what I was thinking would be like people photography. Just unsuspecting shots of people in every day life

We could also incorporate what Danny was suggesting as part of the theme: Shadows, DOF, impromptu quotes, etc.

That's why I said it could be a problem.

We would just need to ask the aquarium before doing it. They may be cool with it. Heck, they may even want to use our material for their stuff. Who knows.

well the aquirium isnt who u have to worry about. you will need legally to get every person you take a photo of to sign a model release, if they are the main subject.

and personally i am not big on taking phtos of everyday people, just not my cup of tea.
