We can make physical and more importantly mental health treatment more accessible for everyone. But lesser, louder minds think socialized medicine=Hitler=the holocaust.
At the cost of how many lives? How many children would have died before someone qualified and accurate enough showed up? What if that one person in the dark, crowded theater shot at James Holmes and missed and hit and killed someone, or two people? What do you do then?Yes it was senseless, but it could have at least been stopped if someone was carrying. Same with the Batman instance, if ONE person in the theatre had shot at him, I bet he would have taken off running.
Giving everyone guns and telling them to shoot the bad guys is a shortsighted solution. Obviously the thought of death didn't phase this guy since he took his own life, so that's out of the equation in this case. I'd hate to even call it a bandaid. But sooner or later, untreated problems get infections. That's what I mean by we can't shoot at our problem forever. We've sat on our hands about the issue for so long, and now it's cost us almost 30 more innocent people.
