    Default Valium

Of all the drugs for anxiety, how is it classified for someone to be prescribed valium? What has to be told to the doctor for him to write you out a prescription?

    Just wondering of course..

What are you a cop? I have anxiety and I have taken pleanty of prescription drugs for it, but valium seems to always do the job the best. I can't just go into the doctors office and ask for a bottle of valium now can I?

I\'m slightly confused. You\'ve been on Diazepam in the past, which I assume was prescribed by your MD and now you want to know what to ask your MD so he/she can prescribe it again? First, Diazepam is highly addictive, which is why it is a Schedule IV drug. Second, if you\'re going to a new MD, be honest about your history with other meds. Indications/contraindications will provide insight on which benzodiazepine your MD will prescribe. You honestly need to speak with your doctor about these issues. Posting non-specific questions and waiting for replies delays your treatment. Now you don\'t want that...do you?

P.S. When I go to my doctor he just asks me what I should take and he gladly writes the script. LoL.

Okay, Valium (Diazepam) is a great drug to use as long as you don't abuse it. If you truly need it (decision from your MD), then by all means, take it. The simple fact is that if you have anxiety, go to your doctor and tell him how you feel and the symptoms that you have. Tell him/her that you have taken meds in the past for anxiety (and list them) but that Valium tends to calm you down the best. Depending on the type of anxiety that you have, you may be prescribed a non-addicting preventative drug that you take every day. Doctors are trained to assess the symptoms that you have and to prescribe the best treatment for each individual.

So, to answer your question, I can't tell you exactly what to say in order to walk right in and get what you want. Sorry.

**By the way, Pharm Teg, I have never talked to you before or read any of your posts, but you really come across like you have a big head. I am in pharmacy school as well - you have to talk to people with respect and come down to a level that others who aren't in pharmacy school can understand. Using "big words" such as contraindications and BDZ's-that you know aren't used in day-to-day conversations -goes to show that you hold yourself above everyone else. I don't like that. Also, when I go to my doctor, I still let him decide on what to prescribe. I can't imagine TELLING my MD what to give me. Just my opinion...

Where is there any indication of disrespect? I use medical/pharmacy terminology in EVERYDAY conversation. Is there really an issue with holding myself in high regard? I'm sure you understand (being in retail pharmacy) the frustration when people like the OP want to get an addictive sedative with a wink and a smile. BTW, perhaps you and your MD need to develop a more open relationship. I did state that the OP should speak to his doctor before coming to an open forum for medically related questions. If people bothered to read the sticky it would save a lot of time. Good luck at Mercer Kate and I'll just leave it at that.

^^How can shopping be a pleasure when you have that kind of attitude. I don't think he has a doctor, but who are we to dictate what he does?

I think it should be up to the MD if he should be subscribed the prescription ... not some pill counting counter clerk. This is why you’re not given the power to subscribe medication because you don’t know if someone needs it or not … if his DOCTOR subscribes a prescription you should take the paper, fill the bottle and STFU and do your job.

And you are qualified to do what again? Pharmacists don\'t know which drug therapy a patient should maintain? What a feeble minded putz..LoL. Ever wonder why your doctor runs out of the room after he spends 5 mins with you? They run to their PDR.

Why don’t you stay on topic instead of coming up with some lame reply that doesn’t change or mean anything regarding the fact if I come to your store with a prescription you’re going to fill it and with a smile on your face.

BTW the only reason I jumped on his side so fast is because of Hulud’s first post

It just seemed he assumed too much about the use of the medication ... really its up to his doctor ... I really don’t feel like getting into it with anyone ... sorry if I said anything too harsh or offending
