    Default Lets Talk about FIshtanks!

Ok so i want to buy a fishtank, i have no fucking clue what to do , what to buy, etc.

I was looking at something in the 55 gallon-75gallon range (used off CL seems the way to go). Ok thats the easiest part.

I guess the hard part is figuring out what fish you want, then that determines the rest of the stuff you need?

PROs CONs Salt water vs fresh water fish?

    Maintanence on the tank ?

    Help a noob out

If you havent had fish before, i would suggest starting small. Saltwater can be a big deal to take care of.

Start with fresh water and go small ( 10-20 gallon)

Its just a cheaper start up over all, In the end if you have found out you hate it you don't have a shit ton of money into it. Plus the smaller tanks are easier to set up and maintain until you figure out the gist of it.

I made the mistake of going big with my first saltwater tank, i had a 90 gallon tank,i got a good deal on it so whatever. I had about 700 in fish and they wound up all dying within about a month...be careful and do alot of research!

smaller saltwater tanks are actually harder to take care of. More maintenance such as water changes to keep perimeters correct. Small saltwater tanks will be ok if you put lots of live rock in it. i have a 210 gallon saltwater tank that i dont even do much maintenance on it. Saltwater = more water capacity, the easier. Go fresh water for ease of mind if you're not home much. Mike, if you need help, hit me up. I have been in this hobby for 5 years.

buy starter fish, i just recently bought a 120 gallon tank but i have a turtle which explains why i need all the space, if u just want fish a smaller tank would be fine,
oh and maintenance of my old tank was a bitch! when i had my 40 gallon but my 120 is pretty easy. probably cuz i bought a better filter,
