You do realize that blackberry's dont function properly without the data plans, right? That's like buying an iPhone and using it as an iPod.

If t-mobile's server doesnt know you're using a Blackberry, none of your services are going to work correctly (wifi included) -- get on tmobile.com and make sure when you login it shows the blackberry. If it doesn't, choose the "this isnt my phone" option and select your phone. That sets all the properties correctly for your phone to work how it should, and if you REFUSE to get the data plan, wifi does not cost you anything. I think you can even use wifi if your account has been suspended.
good answer. because if i have wifi, i could do the same thing. i dont travel much either. what exactly wont work? the internet? hahaaa. what is there to do with a blackberry? email? and internet? and paying 360$ a year?
did you know that the pearl 8120 came out a while before it required a data plan? grand scheme for money is how i see it.
