i have gotten really close with all my ncos and i no longer call them sergent or even go to parade rest for them, is this normal after a deployment? i mean if 1st sgt is around i will do the proper thing but other then that if always a "hey bro whats up" thing

Ill tell you like this. Choose your battles wisely. Know when to play and not to play. I know after deployment everyones all relaxed and shit. But remember, they are still your ncos and staff ncos and they are due there respect. I do it sometimes too but when other people are around I kinda correct myself

yea i know what you mean, i know when to do the right thing i was just wondering if everyone else did the same, cause when we are off duty we will go on a first name basis and even our 1st sgt will meet us at the club lol

Yup thats the thing. I hang out with my Ncos all the time outside of work but when we are back its strictly business because the marines who arent able to hang with them dont need to see that your are "disrespecting" them in a sence.

Only thing i think is if you go on deployment with these people and you share blood, sweat, and tears, sometimes a little personality is what helps you make it through the day

Yeah but when you're in garisson you should keep it professional. You NEVER remove rank when addressing some1 higher rank than you. In the Air Force you can talk to subordinates w/ 1st names... but you're NEVER that kool to where the reverse is true unless you're hanging out and OFF DUTY. PERIOD. That's just out of respect - all it wil take is 1 person to notice and that undermines authority. Not even going to parade rest and "hey bro" --- ummmm no. If you were one of my troops we'd have a talk.

Exactly what I said... Ive seen it in the workplace when female marines talk to gunnys and shit like they are dating. "Hey mike what are you doing tonight?" Right there in damn formation like WTF? Im like hey lance corporal fix your tone of voice when talking to a Gunz.... And looks at me like im stupid

Off duty and out of uniform and things can be much more relaxed. At my first duty station my roommates were the deck NCOs. While in the room it was first names and no rank, outside the room is was pure professional. While in uniform or really any time that you are told something that could be taken as an 'order' you need to be poessional. Getting too relaxed is a really bad habit and one that is very had to break. Just like when you are promoted ahead of a friend, you have to enforce the rank stucture, you have to enforce it now. Trust me when I say that it is hard enough to rip someones ass for not obeying customs and curtisies, it only makes it harder if they saw you doing the same things 2 months before.
