^ good response. Lets not forget these are repeated trends in history. There are many many other examples, similar to this one, that are done to "spread the word of god." On top of that, this scripture seems to respond to an individuals actions but in fact this was the general consensus of the population during that time. The difference now is that we are civilized enough to restrict this sort of behavior. I agree that people can skew "god's" word for their own personal gain but this is the problem religion. There is so much left for "interpretation" that it allows individuals to adjust the meaning for their needs. You praise the scriptures for their abilities to be timeless when I think they are purposely left vague.
