heaton is in the airforce... he has not been in IA latelty though... my bestfriend has been in about 3 1/2 years now.. he has been stationed in germany but is coming back in december... he had to go to iraq for nine months but other than that he loved it!! he got to travel everywhere.![]()
my brother is in the airforce, also just getting back from germany. He has been in it for 12 yrs, and will prob stay in there as long as he can. Of course, the only place he has been stationed, besides germany, is Fort Walton Beach, FL.
thank! ya i just wanted some .02 on it. i would love to see the world, thats why i am considering it! i would not stay in all my life but prob get my 4 yrs donne if i do decide to join.
I grew up on an Air Force base.. for about 18 years the military was all I knew. If you go into any branch go air force, I really wish I had of.
Yeah, I'm in for 4 years, almost at the 2 year mark.

Im in the reserves and wish i was active duty. Its freaking great being in the reserves. Lackland AFB is a fun 7 weeks and if you can ask for keesler AFB mississippsi, its alot of fun too. Eggland AFB would be a nice duty station. Overall AF is the best branch, hands down.
Mad respect to other branches!

what do you want to do in the air force?

It will be a good way to stay in shape SOMEWHAT, but a lot of it boils down to you keepin in the gyms. I'm bad about it, but I guess I perform well enough that I don't really have to worry about it.Originally Posted by Mike
The AF will pay for most of your school, if not all of it while you're on active duty, and yes, if you apply for the Montgomery GI bill, you'll have money for school when you're out.
Traveling, yes, you will leave your current location, hahaha.
My first year went like this:
Lackland for basic
NAS Pensacola (only 2 career fields train there) for tech school, roughly 4 months
Grand Forks AFB, North Dakota (thumbs down) since July 04
Deployed to Al Udeid, Qatar this past may, did 120 days, came back 3 weeks ago. Most deployments for active duty ranges anywhere from 45-90-120 days, depending on your career. Some even go 6 months.
A lot of your AF career depends on what you wanna do for your job.

Fuckin AWESOME!
The local area is commercialized enough that there's always something to do, but it's not to the point that it's overcrowded. Plus Panama City is nearby, as well.![]()

Can you apply to become a fighter pilot when you join the AF?
i was thinking air traffic control...then maybe try and get a job with an airport when i get out. i was just wondering about the situation since we are in war still ya know? just didnt really know how it would work? i think i would only try and join for 2 yrs then if i liked it i would stick around for 4.
I hear that fighter pilot school is hard as CRAP to get into. But I wouldn't know. I knew I couldn't do it b/c I'm blind as a bat, hahahaa!Originally Posted by ironchef
As far as Air Traffic Controller, I've got a couple friends in that field, I'll try to see what they say, then relay it to ya.

thanks a lot man!!!!
you have to have a 4 year degree in something physics related, having your private pilot's liscense already generally helps a lot... you need at least a b average, or a really good excuse to have a c average... and you need an officer's comissionOriginally Posted by ironchef
as of now, you can't go straight from being a civilian to being a comissioned officer for flying... so you have to enlist first and then apply for the comission after you've served for a little bit.
i've been researching this quite seriously, the physical requirements don't offer a lot of flexibility... and it is very hard to get into the flight school.
i'm trying anyway![]()
i was born and lived on travis for 9 yrs, mom meet my dad there, guess a porsche plus a ranking equals LAID! They paid for both my rents med school (UCLA and EMORY). it was cool, def the cushiest branch. I was offered a bid to the AFA, but the rents wouldnt let me take it. They know im too strong minded for that shit, and its true im too much an earth loving running biking hippie. but u do good for the country, def the best treated branch
JOIN THE MARINE CORPS!!!!
My brother was in the Air Force he loved it. My sister-in law is in the Air Force she actually is one of the highest ranking females in the branch. Whats funny is she was stationed in Germany during the time when my father was almost killed in Iraq and when someone is hurt that bad they usually send them to the Hospital in Germany bc thats where they take care of the serious injuries. When they took him to Germany she met up with him and took as much care of him as she could. Now she is in Nevada working with the Blue Angels. I guess you could say a career change. I love the military I just couldnt do it all....I could go through the boot camp and getting screamed in my face bc I was raised on military bases most of my life, but go for it dude. The Air Force is great! More power to you.![]()
im in it currently in jet engine propulsion maintenance,
I work on C-130 turboprop jet engines. And hh-60 engines (blackhawks)
I love it, huge amount of education oppourtunities, and we get the cool shit. Not hte marines, army or navy, and they get shot at
and in the last year iver been to the following
random US places
Germany, (rinemine, spelling?)
spain twice rota and another place, forgot the name
Greece-crete naval air station
Africa- kenya, ethipoia, somalia, and djibouti.
im sure i forgot something though
Its cool can be stressful at times but overall we are taken care of and from most people who cross over to the blue from the green or marines say this is the force to be in.
"Rides" I dont discriminate
