This is how it was explained to me. In Georgia you have the right to own a gun. The police told me that they consider the car and extension of your home, so the easy answer is yes you can.
If you get pulled over you should let the police know because they will appreciate it and in my experience make things a lot easier on you. If you have nothing to hide then might as well tell them.
You don't HAVE to tell them unless asked, but it's a good idea to just go ahead and let them know.
