    Default college food

ok, so here's the deal. I am in college, and tired of eating samiches and soup. what are some ideas of things to cook that are fairly cheap. I am a pretty good cook, but a lot of the things i like to cook are kinda pricey. pasta obviously is one thing that's cheap, ya'll got any other ideas?

Rice, Totino's pizza, chicken isn't that bad and you can get hamburger meat too. I'll prolly think of more later when I check the lack of food in my fridge.

Are you in a dorm, apartment, or what? You have access to a full kitchen, how about a grill?

Pasta is cheap...get those bags of mixes that you just add water, heat, and throw on top of the freshly cooked pasta. Alfredo, herb & garlic, etc. The toppings easily freeze or store in the refrigirator and grab a loaf of bread, a little butter, then sprinkle some garlic powder on top and you're good to go :good job:

or just wash dishes at the waffle house

buy some shake N bake and some chicken its so easy and tastes good. all you have to do is buy some boneless skinless chicken strips (or whole breasts and slice them). rinse them off w/ some water...thrown them in the bag and shake em up, throw them in the oven on a pan for about 15-17 minutes and their done. and make some instant mashed potatoes to go w/ it.

make some spaghetti sauce, and put like 2/3 in the fridge.. only make enough noodles for each meal.. and youve got 3 days worth of food! hot dogs are cheap, frozen chicken pot pie, you can do chicken or hamburgers for cheap also. mix up the ramen too, add jalepenos or cheeze or something different each time!

Meatballs, penne, tomato sauce, peanut butter, and of course ramen noodles. That's about all that's in my fridge.

Here's what I have found so far:

**First and foremost, buy a damn cooking pan!**
    **Note, I am 5'11" 190lbs, so I eat a moderate amount**
**Propel drinks are pretty good tasting, and have almost nothing bad for you in them. They can be had in a 3 flavor case from Sam's for like $7-8 bucks**

    Meal 1:
    -------
Mrs. somethings? Pot Pies (Walmart/Sams) $9-10 for a box of 8
500 cal, a bit high on sodium, but they taste DAMN good. 4 min in mircowave

Meal 2: Chicken and Salad (good for 4-5 individual dinners)
    -------
    Fresh Garden salad $3
Marzettis Ranch $3 (will last way longer than for these few meals)
Tyson Chicken Strips (not breaded) $5-7
    McCormick Montreal Chicken Seasoning ? $1-1.50 ?

Set your oven to broil and through the chicken (with seasoning) in on a greased cookie sheet or pan. Flip after 4min and cook another 4min. Throw about 3 strips onto your plate with a decent handful of salad, add dressing, enjoy.

Makes enough meals for a week worth of dinners, tastes damn good, and is decently healthy. I've been eating too much Totino's, Geno's, Ramen, and other salty crap that will kill you so I was granted this recipe by my roomate.

    Meal 3: 10min Cheeseburgers
    -------
    5lb Lean Ground Beef $8-10
Sliced Cheese (Kraft or whatever) $2
    Cheapo Walmart/Storebrand Buns $0.89
    Spicy Mustard $0.99
    Mayo $1.50
    Your choice of seasonings $1-2

When you first buy the meat, cut it into 1/2lb sections and put each into a freezer bacg and then flatten out to all the edges. This will enable a 1/4inch or less thickness that will enable fast as hell thawing when submerged under hot faucet water.

Good for a weeks worth of dinners if you eat 2 1/4lb burgers at a time (like me).

    Meal 4: Salmon Patties
    ----------------------
By a can of salmon and it will tell you how to make them on the back $1-3

Good for 3-4 meals. I found most of the seasonings in my roomates cabinent o' fun. These are very excellent if you follow the directions.

    Meal 5: Good a$$ pasta
    -----------------------
Various dry pastas from store $.50-1.00
Ragu or other brand Alfredo or whatever $1.50-2.50
    Oil to fry pasta $1.00-1.50

Boil the pasta all at once. Then bag it all in a big ziplock bag taking out only what you need for the current meal. Then throw the pasta you are about to eat in a saucer pan with a little cooking oil. Throw about 1/4 of the jar of Alredo or other sauce in. Simmer for just a few minutes. I usally add some Tony Chachere's (sp?) seasoning for spice.

Once you have cooked all that pasta that you have put in the bag, it only takes 5-8 minutes to prepare a meal the next day. Good for about 4 meals or so. Tastes way better than Johnny Carino's.
