If this is a recent problem, then it would be because of the rain we've had. The water is saturating the ground and flooding them out. They move to higher, drier grounds so they go where they have to. Rainfall is also the reason why you'll see above ground and below ground mounds. When rain seeps into the ground, the ants make their homes above ground.
If this is a problem previous to the rain we've been getting lately, then the Amdro idea is the way to go.
Grits is an old home remedy, but it doesn't really kill the source or residual problem. It's a quick, spot on "solution."
Bombing the house would be a waste of time and money as the source is more than likely NOT inside your home.
