smart choice. i did the same thing. if i'm gonna enlist i'm gonna do it right and go active duty for my term in. depending on the first 4 years, depends if i'm gonna stay in or pull out.

    heh heh, pull out.

I have looked into this a little bit but you might want to check out being a cct or combat controller if your in good enough shape. I would imagine there would be quite a few civilian careers once your done to choose from.

Honestly though... if you want spec ops you need to join the corps. Dude you go grunt and you will get all the hand to hand (MCMAP) and special ops you want kicking in doors and humpin up those afghan hills lol. Shits not fun dude its a life of no showers, beds, eating bag nastys(MREs), and random bs... As a grunt you WAIT... WAIT.... WAIT... clean your weapon.... train.... and WAIT. If thats the life you want, hey be my guest. Get something you can do once you get out. At most i can be a cop.... fk the popos lol. Anymore questions let me know

and yes we are the best. but there are other fields in other branches of service where other people may feel that they would like. We are a combat oriented branch. we have combat services and combat support. so its pretty much relative to who is giving you an opinion

I joined the Army in 2003 and got out in 2007. 2009 rolls around and I got a letter in the mail calling me back up to come back to war. Im not really sure why i got out in the first place but i will probably be staying in this time around. There is alot of bullshit that goes along with being in the military but there are also alot of great things that come with it. Due to the job market right now it is very hard to get in. And due to budget cuts the military is cutting down on basic training costs and calling up soldiers that have already been trained and gotten out.

I didn't get to make it past boot camp. I'm a huge fan of the ocean. Love it. So I went and enlisted in the Coast Guard because I wanted to be on the water and all. I aced the tests and all and got through MEPS and was sent flying to Cape May, NJ for basic. Made it through 2 weeks before I was red tagged and sent home. I failed a hearing test after I had gotten up there and they sent me home with a $400 check. I was distraught over that shit, man. I really wanted to get in and see the sites and do the shit, dude. Later, QD.

    pretty much what he said.

in cases of invading and whatnot, the marines are sent in first since they're pretty much trained to kill. then the army comes in right after em to hold the place down.

that sucks! they didn't give you the hearing test and everything at MEPS? i was there back in may and i went thru the full medical exam/tests. hearing was one of the tests we had to do.

i know now, for the CG, you can only be so big to be enlisted for them. they took measurements of my wrists and whatnot to make sure i cleared. i was DQ'd due to incomplete medical background from when i was a kid put on ritalin. i didn't have the paperwork from it. got it all straightened out and now i'm about to leave for the army.

They did. I passed at that time. See a year earlier I had signed up to join the Navy and went to MEPS and failed the hearing test in the beginning. My ear doctor told me if I wanted to try again to pop my ears right before the test so that I would be able to hear better for a few minutes. So when i went in to MEPS for CG, right before I went in the hearing test, I popped my ears. I passed.

When I got to NJ, they gave us another physical. Since I was already there and thought I was in, I didn't think about doing the ear pop thing. Hence my red tag. Later, QD.

Those 4 fans of freedom can drop some of those women yall have on the sky side lol. And we are bullet sponges... not pincushions.

Life as a marine on base is pretty chill. just have to watch out for who is around you. Ever heard of 6 degress of seperation, well try 2 on base. Depending on your rank is the respect you get lol. And its like living in a dorm at college dude. We are normal ass people lol im not some robot off those commercials.

I was in the Army did 2 tours to Iraq and got out. I recommend the coast guard or air force. Same benefits with actual time to get some school in during the time you serve. Just know when recruiters say the following it really means...

"travel to exotic places and see the world"=Go to Afganistan and Iraq and see all the nice countries you fly over between here and there.

"Go to school while you serve"=Go to military schools which usually include sleeping in the woods for weeks or months at a time. Sometimes you can get some college in depending on your MOS and how much downtime you actually have while not deployed. Good luck between deployments getting any family time in. From my 05-06 deployment to 09-10 I did a total of 6 months at either an NTC/JRTC/Field type training with 4 trips total to NTC and JRTC. Multiple gunneries/trips to the field at my local base lasting 2 weeks to a month a piece.

Like I said. Go Coast Guard or Air Force.

Can't really say who's better and who isn't, I just enlisted in August for Pararescue in the USAF. I leave in March. And btw, theres a waiver for everything. I had 14 tix on my record and got around it.

I chose the USAF because all the SOF's that I spoke to said it was the best lifestyle and no matter what your still in the shit with the other hard chargers, and I wanted to save lives. But thats just me.
