The problem with limiting yourself strictly to water is that inevitably you will fail.

Drink -mostly- water, occasionally indulge in something sweet, like treating yourself. Or say because you drank that soda, you'll drink 1-2 extra bottles of water that day, do something along those lines and I think you'll see an improvement in your dieting habits.
