Atlanta Network Techs and Administrators

This is my situation. I'm a entry level tech, and all the experience in networking i have was done in high school from 99-02. and with the expection of doing some side jobs of home networking, and DSL installations and troubleshooting..I have basic PC repair skills, and my resume sucks. I was going to West Central Tech to become a network specialist, but I saw reading on Gwinnett Tech, and they have a better program(s) than West Central. I've been going through temp agencies, and nothing, can someone help me get into the direction i need to go to gain more experience?

I've applied with best buy, but that damn assement test sucks, I have to be "less" honest to get a physical interview.. but the manager was impressed with my skills.. I'm studying for my Net+ certification, and I want to obtain my MSCE, or MSCA, and CCNA, but i'm having a hard time studying...so anyone who's gone through with the self-taught methoid and doesnt mind helping me study I would greatly appreciate it!

my best advice for you is to finish school, work on the resume anywhere you can (retail, etc..). most tech schools like gwinnett tech do job placement, so your best is to probably finish your degree and see what the school can help you get (job fairs).

i have 8 classes to finish my degree, but i have been working in the IT field for well over 5 years; everything goes on what you know. if you know what your talking about and how to handle problems that may occur you could probably get a decent job w/ most companys w/o a degree

yah i kno...my instructor from high school has his certs and working for the school system, and makin like 60k+ a year, so..

Gwinnett Tech sucks. I am also in I.T. and I spent over a year at Gwinnett Tech then learned that most I.T. jobs require a bachelors degree. Very little of my credits transferred. If it was me, go to common 2 year college (perimeter for me) and get a Associates. All of those credits transferred to Southern Poly where I am going for my bachelors. Don't waste your time like did. If you ever think about getting a 4year degree stay away from Gwinnett Tech.

Certs help, especially with little experience when you are trying to get your foot in the door to show that you know your stuff, but don't think a cert always = high paying job.

Im my career, I have ran into the degree problem only once, my pay was determined upon my degree. But all my other position were temp to perm, so by the time it was perm time, I showed them I knew my shiat so ended up getting good pay.

i don't plan to work in huge compaines..i wanna work for the school systems..get paid good, do 8-5 every day and sometimes have the entire weekend off...besides with my other career which is 85% complete, my CDL (commercial drivers licenses) i could drive a truck, and make good money..but again thats my backup career, its not something i wanna do now. But its a bouns that I have it tho.
