A couple of things to remember when discussing this:

#1 Can't compare mortgages to rent payments. Just not apples to apples.

#2 Shouldn't compare on raw monthly payments alone, because some of these apt complexes offer some great ammenities and others are just basic. So, if you pay $1000/mo for rent on a 2 bedroom, but have security parking, a spa, weight room, 2 pools, sauna, tennis courts, parties, 2 miles from work, etc. then it may be worth it IF renting is the thing for you.

Paul does make a good point when he said that if you are paying $900+ for rent, you should look into buying. Some people don't want to deal with it, and that's cool. It's just that sometimes people THINK they can't buy when they really can.

I can answer that for him....yes it does. He lives in Gwinnett and the mill rate there aint much better.

He just had a hellava LENDER that gave him a hellava rate, so prop taxes aint that big a deal........
he is correct and my lender was pretty good (i'd vouch for him)

exactly, there are definately circumstance that i would rent in as well, single (dont' need the space), trying out the live-in girlfriend, location, etc... shit some apartments have FREE dry cleaning; that in its self is worth it. But if you don't mind mowing grass, fixing things yourself, & already are paying $900+ a month go for it.

i was paying $750 a month for a 1 bedroom apartment w/ a garage... and i had to walk 2 buildings over for my garage , so me paying 200$ more a month for 3x the space including a 2 car garage ; there is no question, go that route.

QD: i would look into a lease-to-own thing as well.. just get papers draw up nice and clear so you don't get screwed
