Question What is your carry knife?

Whats your carry defense knife (NOT utility knife)?

Like this but with some bondo residue, pine sap, etc all over the blades. It might not be that formidable of a weapon during the initial strike, but given that its all funky from laying in the bottom of my toolbox, whatever wounds it will cause are sure to become infected.

My friend asked me this week to get a pic of my daily carry setup, so here is the pic I sent him. Its a Herbertz lock back knife, nothing special.

Yep, sure is. P228 with P226 mag and X-Grip extension. The gun is circa 1988 production.

Its a cold steel american lawman. I Love the grips on it and the blade is VG10. Only thing that sucks is that I bought it when it first came out and msrp was $125. Now you can get them for like $65 online. This is one of only a few knives I own that I can actually make through skinning and entire hog without having to sharpen it.

I'm a benchmade guy myself. I've had the Kershaw someshit but the spring broke, so no more of that.
I have the grip but in stainless blade.

I used to be a huge benchmade guy until they refused to replace a defective knife I had. We also had problems with the batch we bought for issue knives on the last deployment. The blades were coated and even the ones we didnt use were getting rusty. We spoke with there customer service dept and they said it was from lack of proper maintenance and they refused to even look at them. anywho.. i am glad your happy with them. I wish I could still get the hook up from work on them but they have switched to spyderco and I love my Cold Steel.

normally i try to bring both lol

each have thier own very specific uses. i have become extremely fond of the folder for various reason. There are many scenarios where you can barley reach and drawl you knife, much less a gun.

I dont know what kind of knife that is, but fancy doesn't by any means good. So long as your knifes locking mechanism is extremely safe with NO play then it can be an effective defense knife.

Alot of people carry folder that have the little thumb locking mechanism and they just are not strong enough. Take the knife and try to flex it, kind of like breaking a stick, there should be no flex in any direction.

Serrations on a knife are not as effective on people, but are very useful for other situations: cutting seat belts, rope, etc. A non-serrated blade is not as effective in this situation.

it's a Remington Sportsman FAST Med. Matte Blk Folder...

and there is no play when i flex it and it locks pretty well. i have a hard time getting folded back in sometimes.

sounds good enough. Really the most important part is that the locking mechanism is strong. The amount of pressure that a knife will experience when using it in defense is really high, and will cause cheaper knifes to collapse or break.

This is liner lock, that normally has issues. Compared to the lock back shown in my first post and a couple others posts above.

CRKT M-16 for the longest time. Now the screws that hold the clip have stripped out over time and the clip wobbles so i dont carry it anymore.

i have been looking for another carry knife and have been looking into an automatic folder. I looked at a benchmade but after hereing Truegiants experience with them i will consider another brand
