I wanted to point out a double tap from a pistol is a very common defense in court.
I only shoot this style at the range.
If you are going to use a shotgun and aim for the leg then the head?WTF this will then get you locked up as the DA will argue your first shot was SD your second made you the attacker.

I CC a 6.5" Raging bull lol. It can be a little tricky now that it's getting warm and I can't hide it under a jacket... I may have go buy something smaller for the warmer months.

Any of you guys have any experience with the Rock Island Armory 1911's? I have read good things about them, they are very well priced. Don't get me wrong, i'd love a Kimber or Colt or Springfeild, but they just cost so much. Thoughts?
I personally dont have any experience with the RIA. But there are lots of people that say its fantastic for the money, and some of the more experienced 1911 minds seem to swear against it. Personally i am not sure how a $350 1911 will run for any extended period of hard use, but i could be mistaken.
Check out the springfield GI model, i see them pop up for around $425 used quite often at Adventure OUtdoors.
I would wipe Kimber off your list of potential buys, JMHO.

i carry one of these. i just got a supertuck iwb for the Glock 29 (10mm). It gets fed Corbon Powrball or Gold Dots.

I have personal experience with one. I have redone several RIA's with customers. They all seem to like them. My RIA is a High Standard Crusader. Its a 3" 1911 with all kinds of neat goodies from teh factory. I essentially only used the frame,slide, and barrel. I replaced everything else inside the gun with good quality components from the big names. I find nothing necessarily inferior with the RIA's. There are some casting marks, factory blimishes,etc with them but nothing a good internal polish job wont fix. I agree with danny. You can usually pick up a good used springer or even a taurus pt1911. Some will tell you that hte taurus' are junk but i personally liked the coupel i shot for the money. I saw a blued pt1911 with less than 200rds down the tube go for $400 at the last gun show. Thats a great deal considering what all you get out of the box. GREAT DEAL! And to someone just getting into the 1911 platform, it will allow you to decide what you like and what you dont like without breaking the bank.

when considering a pt1911 its important to remember that their frames are not 1911 spec. Thus many parts (ignition group for example) must be ordered specifically from tarus, or another brand that makes pt1911 parts. This pretty much kills the deal for me. Also those pistols seem very hit and miss, some run and some dont. Warrenty work for tarus has to go to south america if i recall, another down fall.
Personally i like springfield and colt base models (series 70 only), then build them up from there.
Like John (truegiant) said RIA can be built up, but there is a reason the top smiths in the country pic the colt series 70 or the springfield milspec as thier buildup guns. RIA would be a good option for the low budget builds.

i sold a gun on gun broker and purchased some mags on there. When buying it works basically like ebay. After you win you call your local gun shop and tell them you need to have a gun shipped there, once you get that all set up (about 35$) you talk to the seller and give him the addy of your gun shop. They then will usually overnight the gun there and all you do is pick it up basically.

well... try not to flame too hard, but after shooting several guns I was looking at (1911's {.45acp, 9mm, 38 super}, Glock 23, Glock 26) I decided to go with a Glock 26, and I am pretty excited about how well it shoots and how accurate it is for a subcompact. I beats the living hell out of Sigma thats for sure. And I just really liked the way it felt and I also like the size of it. It worked for me. I will own a 1911 one day, but I dont want to spend money on one I dont really like or want in my price range. But any who, a Glock 26 was the first hand gun I ever shot and It felt so nice then, so I decided to shoot it again and I went back to it.

Good choice. 1911s are tricky and its very common that 1911s under $1K just plain suck. So that right there makes it unobtainable for most people. You will like your glock, there is nothing wrong with those guns. They are easy to shoot, easy to maintain, and usually very reliable.
Subcompacts are usually much more accurate than thier owners
Like i mentioned earlier, keep your eye out for a milspec or GI springifled model (used). These are great guns to get your feet wet with. And then if you want you can build a custom 1911 on that platform like I did and it becomes a whole new gun.
Even though you didnt ask for advice ill give it anyways. Spend money on ammo, training and a good holster. A second gun can wait a little while. Just a heads up, you will find your self wanting a bigger gun if you start shooting/training for extended periods of time.

Colt GI .45? It was just a basic milspec, colt 9mm combat commander, colt 38 super, which were all nice guns, just too much to spend right now. I don't know anyone with a RIA 1911, and if I do get a 1911 I am not going to skimp on it. That's why if I was going Tupperware again, I might as well pick up a glock, sure there are better polymer framed guns out there, but they ate up in 1911 price range... You know what I'd with the money in that case. I think I got the best gun for the money. Only time will tell.
I love my G23. I know there are better weapons out there, but for the money I got exactly what I was looking for. Something that I am pretty accurate with, reliable, and easy to maintain.
i wouldnt be so quick to say there are better poly guns out there, as nothing really jumps out in my mind. You made a good choice and i bet you will be happy with it. I have a 27, same size as yours. Its my carry gun and I like it alot.

Man, my grammar was real bad in that last post of mine... lol. I just woke up from a nap. I love vacation. I was about to buy a 27, but I have heard they are terrible for firing more than like 2 clips and I like to shoot my gun. 9mm is good enough if it is placed right. I would agree that Glock is the best polymer framed pistols, but there are some that are more costly with more features that others may consider "better" but in my honest opinion what is more better than a basic gun that can withstand abuse and still run like a champ? but anyways, A G19 mag and slide on extension is in order for my next purchase. then maybe a good set of night sights.

i use a comptac m-tac holster. Its leather/kydex hybrid. I like it alot.
