Default I had to have my gerbil put to sleep this morning.

For those of you who knew my 2 little gerbils, I had to put one to sleep today after he had his second stroke. He couldn't walk anymore. His brother died from complications of a broken foot last year sometime. It was very upsetting for me. I am kind of embarrassed about how much I cried. I had them since they were like 3weeks old. They usually only live 3 years, but he was almost 5.

We started to call him Egor after he has his first stroke, because he looked like a humpback. So RIP Egor

    The good ole days:

That looks like a cat in the cage.

If it is, I might be able to tell you why he had a stroke.

Sorry about that though Tracy, I know how much you care about your pets!

Sorry to hear about your loss. Losing a pet sucks. On the brighter side he lived a really long life and is somewhere better now

Yea, that pic with the cat in the cage was taken a few years ago. It was funny because the gerbils were like WTF? The cat was like, get me out of here! LOL. Halfbaked did it while I was out of the office – jerk!

I grew up with a LOT of animals – including birds. My mom is obsessed with birds. My favorite was our Blue and Gold McCaw whose name was Maxie. He was awesome. You could hold him like a baby and he also knew how to talk. So cool.

We got about 6 blue and golds, 2 scarlets, and 1 hyasynth macaw. Then a few mini macaws as well

Even rodents have personality. I know it sounds silly, but it's true. We had 2 and it was easy to tell them apart even thought hey looked exactly the same, because of personality. Same with my chinnies. It was just realy sad for me because I was feeding him through a dropper. He was trying to get it in his mouth, but his body was all spazzed out from the stroke. His mind was with it, but his body wouldn't work I could have kept him alive, but I think it was the right thing to do. He would have had a terrible rest of his life in that state. He had a good life though. Very spoiled.

I completely understand but you did the right thing! 5 years for a gerbil is nothing to laugh at, most gerbils dont have the opportunity for a life like that. Is it to soon to start thinking about your next pet?

Well I just gave away my chinnies to an IA member because they were living at the shop and I didn't go there anymore. I miss them. At home I have 2 cats and a dog, so I am not lacking in the pet dept. I will probably chill for a while until Dan and I have some acreage.

O no man animals can have all kinds of shit. My grandparents Miniature Pomeranian that we got when they died has high blood pressure, diabetic, has seziures quite often, hell she has even had a minor stroke before. now she has crones disease poor girl. she is on several meds including the dog form of xzanax to help with seziures.
