Default A Hobby I Just Got Back Into

I'm pretty impressed with my painting skills...I messed up on the hood...pretty bad orange peel...or more like cantaloupe skin. I'm fixing that tonight. I'm painting the interior tonight as well...might have to line the bathtub with newspaper and work in there because it's too damn cold and windy outside to paint.

Anyway, here it is so far! It's a 1992 Mercury Cougar XR-7 for those who don't see it right away.

It's a good time killer. My friend gave them to me because he never got around to putting them together. I've also got a 1970 Shelby GT500 and Dale Earnhardt Jr's Monte Carlo...haven't started on either of those yet. I'm thinking of just doing an unsponsored stock car on the latter.

Knock on wood, I've got steady hands. Haha, building this also sort of makes me wish I was actually building a real Cougar, but who knows how expensive (and not worth it) it'd be to make one like the one I'm putting together.

The body's actually a real GM color...Honduras Maroon Metallic. I'm doing a peanut butter interior. The wheels are chrome but I might just paint those silver.

Hah, I'll probably end up turning this into a "build thread."

Whywould anyone make the Xr-7 a model? An Rx-7 model would be killer though

^^ Yeah, I drew a frame of a man running on each fan blade. That is him running at idle

I was in Hobby Lobby getting the paints and I saw a kit for an FC...I'm thinking I'll do that after I finish the stock car and the Shelby.

    Worked on some today.

Interior is painted. Inside peanut butter!

Close-up of the dash and steering wheel. I'm painting in details (wood trim, air vents, various buttons) later. The gauge cluster has a decal so no worries there.

Wing mirrors...a bit smudged onto the chrome while I was gluing it in. Oh well

    Assembled seats

Seats in the cabin. Not glued in yet because I want to leave the space open so I'll have room to work when I do details. Just checking how it looks.

So guys, help me select what wheels I should throw on there.

I'm planning on going with the first...either way, I'm painting them silver. Chrome is a bit too much.

Coming along nicely! If those are the only rims you have to choose from I say go with the 2nd ones...and then paint them black

    I mean...I've got these too.

Didn't really feel like building a lowrider though. Black would look pretty mean, especially since I'm doing the trim around the windows black.

I'm gonna see how I feel after most of the car comes together. Oh yea, check out my Honda-style vented hood! Hah, I just didn't snap it into place, so it's sitting up like that.

I bet this replica will boast better build quality than the real Mercury Cougar.

Haha I should've said something like, "I'm impressed with my painting skills FOR THE MOST PART, BUT I messed up the hood."

    Haha thanks man.

use an exActo knife to cross hatch where the rear speaker grills would be and paint it black.

Right behind the headrests? Hah, custom job right there...not a bad idea.

I'm already doing some "custom" work. There are two bumpers...one stock and one body kit. The body kit one has a piece that covers up where the headlights would be, but I want the stock headlights, so I'm cutting the top off of both and putting the stock one in place on the body kit. There are body lines in a good spot where I can glue them up. I might use a dremel or something.

I've got a complete room with those.

I've been doing models since I was about 7. Doctors wanted to put me on meds, my mum told the doc to go f__k himself. We ended up in the model shop. Mum said pick something you want to make. Picked a car and have been building ever since.

    I go from 1/24 to 1/8th scale.

I've got a few rare ones.

I've probably got around 150-200 unbuilt and around 100 built.

I haven't worked on it for a while...I need a few more colors for details, but I'll get to it again now that most of my school-work has settled down.

Front bumper is getting..."customized" slightly, but I'll go ahead and paint the rear bumper tonight. The engine is going to be a bit tricky.

Bumpin' like the speakers in 89 Stallion's sig.

Rear bumper is done. I'm about to run a pin and scrape away the excess paint around the trim that I did. Haha these exhaust tips look stupidly large, but whatever.

Engine is done...same 5.0 Windsor V8 as the Fox-body Mustangs.

    Exhaust...yea.

I just finished the chassis tonight.

I'll flip it over when it dries, but here's an idea of how it looks.

Just realized I haven't been documenting this...haha, here we go. Lots of work into it since last time.

Interior without seats...wood trim and all. Wood grain grippin!

    With seats.

    Engine and chassis, no radiator.

Front suspension...I was letting it dry, which is why it's upside down.

Dash on the inside...got a little messy on the vents but whatever.

    Rear...it's a little dusty.

    Completed engine bay...decals and all.

    Side skirts.

    No hood, no front bumper.

    JDM Tyte style

    Looks nearly done!

Front bumper preview...I'm doing a little modification with it, which is why I didn't mount it just yet.

Wow man, excellent work on those.

What sort of plane is that? At first I thought B-17, but those had four engines.

B-25. With the markings, it's actually a replica of one of the planes flown by the first bomber squadron of the Tuskegee airmen.
