get a used 500cc bike, wont cost as much and will be much better... then sell it and step up to a new faster bike.

250cc street bike(unless it's a dual sport, which I'm not sure if that even exists)=weak sauce. Get a real bike. A 600 is fine for a starter bike if you're careful.

In Europe, a 250cc two stroke with a good rider will destroy a 600 or even a 1000 around a race track. In 2008, if you compare the pole times of World Superbike machines to those of 250GP around the same race track, the 250cc is usually just 1 sec slower a lap than the Superbike which has 3 times the power.
Small bikes is how you become a good rider. No matter your experience level. It is why out 7 of the last 8 years, a 125cc/250cc veteran has been the MotoGP champion.
Just look at this. Yamaha stopped building on its TZ250 bike in 2003. If you want one new in 2008, you are basically spending 20K for a 5 year old technology. But people still do it since it is such an important stepping stone in rider development.

I'm guessing this was posted twice since I posted in the other thread about my 08 250 Ninja experiences.
And EJ is right, saying a 250 is weak is pretty stupid. Just in the Sept. issue of RoadRacingWorld they have an article about a new Ninja 250 race series and how the guy who started it used to run a 1000 I think. Go to a race and watch the 250's or even 125's run, I saw KIDS on 125's in the RedBull series at the past Superbike Showdown passing 600's coming out of five on Thursdays practice.

i was in jackson county a few weeks ago and a bike dealer actually had one that someone traded in. bike was gone in two days. but still good luck getting one

In a way...doesnt mean a highly experienced rider can't enjoy a smaller bike, or rape a higher CC bike on backroads and such.
Yes, i realize this. 2 strokes don't make very good street hp from such a small power band. Then there are other factors like emissions. I recently learned the FIM outlawed leaded fuel in 1998. I guess i was making a point that most people in America have never been introduced to small cc machines unless they have a dirt bike history. Yamaha has a great 125cc 4 stroke bike in Europe that is very popular for example. The YZF R125

You got me on the racing issues, but for a normal guy who can't go race bikes I would definitely go with a 600. I've ridden a Ninja 250 before, and many 250cc dirtbikes, and none give the rush that a >600cc bike does. Maybe a lot of guys can ride them better on the track, but I answered based on my experience. I will submit to my being owned, but I still wouldn't buy a 250 for street use. Off road is a totally different animal. My last bike was a KDX 200 and that had more than enough power for me to enjoy blasting around the MX tracks at Durhamtown with.
btw: If I was in the situation to buy a new bike right now, I'd grab the new Versys if I needed a good starter. I plan on waiting a few years so I can snag a new CBR1000RR when the prices come down.
To be honest, i feel that GA is really a dangerous place to ride bikes on the street, i see bikes as something to ride on deserted roads or the track. Yes, i guess for an average street guy a 600+ will be more fun than any 4 stroke machine with small displacement. I think the reason i threw around all that race info is cause I'm so partial to 125 and 250 cc 2 stroke race bikes and feel too many people haven't a clue about their potential.
Pretty much any state is dangerous to ride a bike, there are dumbass drivers everywhere. I always give bikes a lot of space. And the 250 was very fun, very easily controlled and fun to throw around corners. But for me, if I'm going to by a bike, I'm going big lol. 1000RR, please.
true. But i'm just saying. I do the same with bikers. They look at me funny when i give them 2 lanes on the freeway.
1000RR - I just don't like the 2008 design. Yes, i know it is faster than the 07 but the 04-07 was my fav of the modern bikes. I mean, the damn thing was an evolution of the CBR600RR which was based on the RC211V
I haven't fully decided. I just love the attention to detail on the new one, the lengths they went to to cut weight are pretty insane. I'm going to get a lot of seat time on a lot of bikes when I do decide to get one, so I can't really say what I'll end up with.

I thought of bikes more as a hobby .. so shoot me .. just tired of his ass hole remarks bout everything and anyone. So yeah i think i will be geting a honda cbr 600 i was rideing my friends around the block and i really like the getup and go the bike has .
i want one too. i was told that i should not have a bike though. are they that hard to ride, and i was not coordinated enough to ride one..... i mean i REALLLLLLLLLLLLY want tone bad. you only live once
