Exclamation FSA!?! $1,000 to spend on health expenses by end of Sept.

Long story short my benefit provider said i would have to pay for $1,200 for this procedure I had and come to find out my insurance covered it ALL.

I had signed up for a FSA (Flexible spending Account) basically its tax free money used for my medical issues. They are deducting money from my pay checks

Now I have $1,000 to spend on doctor visits, glasses, co-pays, prescriptions, and over the counter drugs by the end of September.

    AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

September? That's a really odd plan year end. FSA's run calendar year and some employers give you a few months grace period after that... ours is until March 15th of the following year.

I'd buy some extra contacts, random over the counter stuff to keep around the house... but that wouldn't be anywhere near $1000. Hmm... collect drug store receipts from friends? Hahaa.

yea it's pretty gay... I think we go through MBI which is like third party for Wells Fargo..

I'm trying my best to get it canceled but they said the first deduction went out yesterday or today so they might not be able to do it unless i have a life changing event like I get married. but i'm not giving up calling folks.

but yea collecting receipts aint a bad idea

FSA's don't roll over, its a federally regulated type of account. HSA's might though.

I ran into the same problem a few years ago. I have a HSA now. I took my kids to the eye doctor and told them to pick out whatever eyeglass frame that they wanted. $1000 bucks goes pretty quick on designer frames. I also got a nice set of prescription sunglasses.
You should be able to cancel the FSA portion when your employer renews their insurance contracts

Same here, my employer spoke highly of Aetna, and I now have it. Fairly cheap, but i pay 35 weekly, and 5 for disability.
