It's funny, everytime I make an attempt at getting in great shape, I always refer to that Men's Health about Ryan Reynolds for motivation.
My biggest problem is always maintaining motivation. For instance, a few weeks before Spring break this year I got in an extremely good rythm of eating right and working out (yes, I realized that I wouldn't be able to transform in 3 weeks time). Well I definitely started to notice a difference with the way I felt, my lifting was increasing, etc. The problem was, right after Spring break I just lost all of my drive. This has happened to me so many times. Whether it's going out of town for a week, getting sick, just a really busy week where I can't make time to get to the gym, they all just sabotage me. Then another couple of months go by and I start from scratch again.

i have had many people around me that work out and are hudge/ripped say that if you just need to eat as much as you can, especially if you are trying to put on weight, no matter what it is, just eat as much as you can and then you can start getting all the fat off as you go. thats how im doing that, im already ripped to an extent, anymore ripped and i would weird as **** on a small frame. so now im just eating as much as i can putting on as many calories as i can to get in size. then i can work out the fat later.
i take supplements on a seldom basis. may use something like black powder or NOxplode if im tired from a long day to help me lift. but other then that i jus use protien and what not.
there are many different things when it comes to working out, it all depends on what you goal is.
mine for instance is just that im looking to get bigger. i started off at 6'3 156 lbs and am now 175. i wana be up to atleast 180 to 200 atleast by fall if possible.
