    Default HELP WITH COMPUTER!!!!

    I got a HP desktop but I don't know the password because the HD placed into it was brought from my homeboy who moved to Kansas and now I dont have any way to get in touch with him, I need to figure out how to unlock the WINDOW VISTA password login.

    Try and go into the menu's setup page before the comp boots up to the login screen. Boot it up in SAFE MODE and you should be able to log in without a password. I'm not sure if you can edit things in safe mode, but that should be a start.

    even if you boot it, it still has the password. you gotta unlock it to get in.

    like he said you have to go into safe mode then you should be able to change the password. i'll do some research and try to help some more.

    ok i found this, it's alot of steps but it looked like it should work. let me know if it does or not and i'll try to help you some more if i can.

    Place the Windows Vista operating system disc in the optical drive. Close any dialog boxes that open.
    Restart the computer.
    Note: The computer must be configured to boot to the CD/DVD drive.
    After the Gateway BIOS logo appears, when prompted, press any key to boot from CD or DVD.
    4Windows loads files.
    In the Install Windows dialog box, select the appropriate information, and then click Next.
    In the Install Windows dialog box, click Repair your computer.
    In the System Recovery Options dialog box, select the appropriate operating system, and then click Next. If controller drivers are needed, click Load Drivers.
    In the System Recovery Options window, select Command Prompt.
    At the command prompt, type: D: Press the ENTER key.
    At the command prompt, type: cd windows\system32. Press the ENTER key.
    View Picture
    At the command prompt, type: notepad winpeshl.ini. Press the ENTER key.
    In the winpeshl.ini - Notepad window, notice the AppPath= X:\Sources\Recovery\Winrelauncher.exe entry.
    In the winpeshl.ini - Notepad window, change the entry to this: AppPath=x:\windows\system32\restore7.exe
    In the winpeshl.ini - Notepad window, from the File menu, click Exit.
    In the Notepad dialog box, click Save.
    At the command prompt, type: Exit and then press ENTER.
    Remove all CDs or DVDs from the optical drives.
    In the System Recovery Options window, select Shut Down.
    After the computer is turned off, disconnect all USB devices except the keyboard and mouse. This includes USB devices such as a printer, scanner, removable storage, or camera.
    Turn on the computer.
    After the Gateway BIOS logo appears, repeatedly press the F8 key. The Advanced Boot Options menu opens.
    On the Advanced Boot Options screen, use the arrow keys to select Repair your Computer, and then press ENTER.
    In the Gateway Recovery Center window, press ALT+D.
    At the command prompt, type: notepad winpeshl.ini. Press ENTER.
    In the winpeshl.ini - Notepad window, notice the AppPath=x:\windows\system32\restore7.exe entry.
    Note: The backslash looks like a Y with two lines through it. This is normal.
    In the winpeshl.ini - Notepad window, change the entry to this: AppPath=X:\Sources\Recovery\Winrelauncher.exe.
    In the winpeshl.ini - Notepad window, from the File menu, click Exit.
    In the Notepad dialog box, click Save.
    At the command prompt, type: Exit, and then press ENTER.
    In the Gateway Recovery Center window, click Next.
    In the Gateway system recovery window, select Full factory recovery.
    Note: Recovery with automatic data backup can be selected, but may cause a security risk for your data if an unwarranted user is accessing the computer.
    View Picture
    In the All data will be lost window, select Yes, and then click Next.
    The Windows partition is formatted and Windows is installed.
    In the Recovery is complete window, click Finish.
    In the System Recovery Options window, select Restart.
    The computer restarts.
    Windows prepares to start for the first time. This may take a few minutes.
    Drivers and applications are installed. This process takes several minutes. The more drivers and applications that need to be installed, the longer the process will take.
    Note: The following Out of Box Experience (OOBE) screens may vary slightly between models.
    In the Set Up Windows screen, select the appropriate options and then click Next.
    In the Please read the license terms screen, check I accept the license terms, and then click Next.
    In the Choose a user name and picture screen, enter the appropriate information and then click Next.
    In the Type a computer name and choose a desktop background screen, enter the appropriate information and then click Next.
    In the Help protect Windows automatically screen, select Use recommended settings.
    In the Review your time and date settings screen, enter appropriate information and then click Next.
    In the Thank You screen, click Start.
    Windows checks the computers performance. Depending on hardware, this process could take from 3 to 15 minutes to complete.
    Windows prepares the desktop.
    Installation is complete. Any application that shipped on a separate CD can now be installed. It is recommended to update the antivirus definitions and perform Windows Updates

    safe mode logs you in as if you 1st bought the computer with no password log in i believe. That menu that comes up when you push certain buttons should help you alot if you can't seem to log in. Try it? If not, call the company/customer service and get tech support. Or try services out/geek squad @ best buy. You can also reformat your computer if you really wanna go that far. All you gotta do is insert the OS disc and it'll do the rest. Hopefully I helped a bit.

    have you tried taking the internal battery out and resetting the whole damn thing?? it might work but not sure

    get a windows xp disc you can use any disk.
    Go to bios by pressing f8 on startup
    go to bootup options
    then press boot from cdrom
    then just go through windows install.It will reformat the drive and take the password off
    make sure u select delete partition

    haha..das what i mentioned above..REFORMAT! but its a ***** to reinstall everything u had..but its fresh off the lot fast when you reformat though.
