I smoked Marlboro Reds for 15 years. 1-2 packs a day. I quit cold-turkey, drunk at a bar with a fresh pack of ciggs and my best friend drunk by my side. We were wasted and were like "we quit" and threw the pack of ciggs at the bartender (she still smokes). This is after trying the "I'll quit on Monday" or "After this pack is gone" or "Only smoke when I drink" or "Only smoke after I eat" or "Only smoke at work" or "Only smoke 5 a day" or "I'll only smoke other people's cigs and won't buy any" approach many, many times. To me it's the only way because it is the only thing that worked for me. When I went to the bar, I would cut a straw the size of a cig and hold it in my hand like a smoke and when I felt the urge to puff, I'd puff the straw. LOL. I'd forget it was a straw until I puffed air. Did the same in the car. That took care of my "hand-to-mouth" issue. Then I sucked on a lot of dum dum's when I wasn't at the bar to cure the "hand-to-mouth" issue.

I didn't smoke a cig for 3 years. Now I smoke if I get real hammered or if I go to the Pink Pony and I TOTALLY regret it the next day. I go months even years without having a cig, that being said. I sometimes still get the urge, but like I said, I regret it the next day, if I act on it, because I feel like crap.

The best thing about quitting smoking is you can smell again. You never realize you can't smell until you quit and start smelling again. The worst thing is now that you can smell, you can smell a cig from a mile away and it makes you want to puke. The other bad thing is you hack up all that black **** because you body is cleaning it out.

Good luck.
