Most pregnant women suffer from three common physically painful symptoms during the course of pregnancy 1) low back pain often resulting in sciatica (or traveling pain down the buttocks and one or both legs), 2) indigestion and heartburn, and 3) headaches. Most headaches of pregnancy are tension type headaches where the pain feels like a tight band across the forehead and often is accompanied by spasmed muscles in the neck or shoulders. These headaches are soft tissue (muscle, tendon, ligaments) and biomechanical (external and internal forces on the body) in nature and respond excellent to chiropractic care. Due to the changes in a pregnant woman’s posture, extra stress often occurs in the neck and the midback.
