The punishement is battery. It was reduced from attempted murder. How much lighter can you get than battery? Attempted pushing?

No, the whole thing is about race. Al Sharpton said "This the the 21 centurys civil rights movement" He also said "They brought race into it when they hung the nooses". So Al Sharpton, in all his bullshit theatrics is comparing a legitimate movement in which the country needed desperatly to a gang of thugs who beat up a student in a high school. And he is condoning criminal activity.
