    Default Durant can't bench 185?

Apparently at the NBA workout Kevin Durant who will be the #2 pick most likely could not bench 185.. I'm not a big time body builder but i work out with 185 as I'm winding down and I KNOW guys in the NBA at his position bench way more than that. In the grand scheme of things I'm sure he'll still play his game and do it well but im kind of shocked that a pro basketball player cannot bench 185.

durant is a beast. he'll do well regardless of not being able to bench 185 at the moment.

Damn... I do single arm curls with 185...

185 is not that much. They should be able to get that, at least as a max.

It's not only about how much you bench... Maybe he's going for endurance and not build.....

185 is pretty weak. i dont think you really need to have a strong upper body to dribble/throw a basketball.

So, he can't bench 185 pounds?

He'll STILL make more than us combined on a single night.

anything over the weight of a basketball is kind of a waste dont you think? especially since its his career, he can afford to be that way. i only bench 225.

Look at Chauncey Billups or Lebron James, Lebron has to be STRONG to take it to the basket like he does. For anyone that plays basketball hit the weight room for about 3 months and see how easily the game comes to you..

Basketball is a physical sport and unless he wants to be a jump shooter all his life he will spend his time on the court being someones bitch in the paint, I'm sure by now he has a trainer working with him.

not to say its an excuse or anything but he is only 18/19 and idk if youve seen him b4 but dude is skinny as hell. not to mention basketball conditioning isnt always about strength cuz it alters your shot

If that was the case nobody would lift weights in the NBA, Kobe's game went to another level when he began lifting weights.

First off, I don't really believe that he can't, maybe at the end of a long workout he couldn't, or if he didn't like whoever he was working out for, maybe he wasn't willing to push himself.

But what you don't realize is that comparing him to you is waayy wrong. His arms are what over 7 feet long? Do you realize how far down his elbows are when the weight is on his chest? Not to mention the fact that when he's pushing it up, he probably ends up benching twice the distance that you bench? Go take some physics classes, in this case work=force x distance, his benches could easily "work" as hard as many lifting 300lbs.

You don't see very many long armed bench pressers, and there is a reason why.

Whoa.. calm down there its not THAT serious. I was simply making a point that he will be a pro athlete in a sport where strength does matter and cannot bench 185lbs, that is a problem when he'll be matching up with players like Tracy McGrady or Dirk Nowitzki. You don't see many long armed bench pressers but how many do you see in the NBA? Plenty because they have to finish even after getting fouled or rebound aggressively.. both require strength more than talent.

Basically what I was going to say. Being a decently tall guy (6'4") I've noticed shorter friends of mine that are definitely no stronger than me in an every day sense are able to bench/lift more than me.

Granted, he is a professional athlete, but I really don't think it's a huge deal at this point. He's still got a great game and will only get stronger over time.

who cares who much he benches, he will do the same thing he did in college in the NBA....the bigger you get, the less mobile you are

and I thought I felt bad when I graduated high school maxing at only 195lbs......funny though, two months later I max'd 275lbs at the first official team weigh in....something about not wanting to be the weakest guy in my recruiting class got me extremely motivated.....

kid's not even finished developing, he'll get much stronger. probably poor form anyway causing the majority of his issues.

what people fail to realize is that kev durant is swingman and really does not need to be a bulky, strong dude. as far as on the court he can score from any where inside, outside. he can rebound, shoot the 3 he is the real deal no matter how much he can lift

I think Kevin Willis (old Hawks forward-center) could get 400 to maybe over 500 in the bench press. He was strong everytime he went to the basket.

Long arms def kill your bench..I am 5' 10'' 220 and my short arms helped me to 350. Some folks just don't have it...some do.
