Why don't you just call the goddamn vet yourself and find out? Later, QD.

most vets do it...all they are doing is amputating their finger at the knuckle behind the nail....sounds painful to me...try the things call soft paws sold at petsmart and petco for like and the groomers can put them on for you...they cover the nail and are 19.99 a set and the set comes with 4 months worth of nail covers...they are more "humane"...My cat has them and they stay on for about a month...

Declawing is EXTREMELY PAINFUL for kitties. Try getting him a scratching post and sprinkling cat nip on it.

If that doesn't work, try the claw caps that you put on their nails.

I'd have to agree with Theresa, just get them a scratching post, especially if the cat lives with other animals or goes outside. A cats claws are its main line of defense, you might know it doesn't have claws but the cat might not fully realize it all until it's too late. It'd be like me giving you a gun and saying "If you ever need to protect yourself just use this and everything will be ok"....BUT I'd take the bullets out.

If a cat gets scared it'll try to use its claws, if another animal realizes that the cats' claws are gone then you can say goodbye to your cat too.

pain of loss of cat > cost of a scratching post

Also... when they don't have claws to defend themselves, they'll start biting. Saw this ALOT when I worked at a vet. The meanest cats were the ones that were declawed.

This is all news to me. We had our cat declawed and she is perfectly fine and content. She is purely an indoor cat though.
