isnt that what you call god? so why call him it too?

Because priests(which is the correct spelling) think they are God because they are telling us God's word that know one else could understand. So they make you call them by the higher power name. Later, QD.

I don't think they really can tell what God is saying. I just think it is their personal translation(for lack of better word) of the Bible. Later, QD.

because they are people that have been studying the way of God for years and years and dedicated it to God.

they are not trying to step in and make themselves higher or superior to you, their role is that they interpret the readings of the bible and their life experiences and then tell the stories in mass to give advice to those who need it and they do the rituals in church as apart of their duty.

they are called father as an issue of respect for their way of life... God is called THE Father.

But if you were adopted and he was not your biological father, you would still call him 'father', right?


It is more an out of 'respect' thing than anything. something that symbolizes unity and family, you know.. like the church being a "family" where everyone is the same and there would be no prejudice. Also the priest would take on the 'fatherly' role of guiding, advice etc.

From what I hear when Catholic priests are molesting alter boys they ask them, "who's your daddy." That MIGHT be the origin.
