    Default The Big Bang Theory

The Big Bang Theory is the dominant scientific theory about the origin of the universe. According to the big bang, the universe was created sometime between 10 billion and 20 billion years ago from a cosmic explosion that hurled matter and in all directions.

In 1927, the Belgian priest Georges Lemaître was the first to propose that the universe began with the explosion of a primeval atom. His proposal came after observing the red shift in distant nebulas by astronomers to a model of the universe based on relativity. Years later, Edwin Hubble found experimental evidence to help justify Lemaître's theory. He found that distant galaxies in every direction are going away from us with speeds proportional to their distance.

The big bang was initially suggested because it explains why distant galaxies are traveling away from us at great speeds. The theory also predicts the existence of cosmic background radiation (the glow left over from the explosion itself). The Big Bang Theory received its strongest confirmation when this radiation was discovered in 1964 by Arno Penzias and Robert Wilson, who later won the Nobel Prize for this discovery.

Although the Big Bang Theory is widely accepted, it probably will never be proved; consequentially, leaving a number of tough, unanswered questions.

I believe that God created the Universe out of nothing. Im sure there was some initial "Bang" involved.

Yea I pretty much believe in that right there as well - that God kinda set forth the bang and let things take their own course, but of course we as humans documented it in a way that at the time we could understand

You can believe in both. The Big Bang theory is just an explanation of how everything began and why most galaxies and such are moving away from us. The theory of evolution is for how lifeforms change once life began on Earth. So yea I agree with both theories.

evolution has its flaws as well

some scientists at a convention had like a whole month of trying to figure out what the pharynx in your throat evolved from. they could not find a simpler form of it and therefore it has never evolved.

it was supposed to be some big thing about how evolution didn't work, i didn't really understand it all that well

its supposed to thats the point
i don't understand what people don't understand about that, its called faith for the 100th time

science is supposed to be factual and 100% flawless.

Not exactly, for scientists their theories have to be proven before they become scientific fact. That's why there is a Big Bang THEORY...it hasn't been completely proven yet.

Faith...yea we understand what faith is for the 100th time, and it's still seems like bs to me.

U don't have any faith in science, but u have faith in some imaginary being?

I'd like to know which school you attended. If you actually learned that in school I'd like to slap your instructor.

Science thrives on error. Science is falsifiable and testable. I find it amusing that some of you want to discuss "science" but don't know the true definition of theory or law. You want scientists to explain billions of years of evolution in a nice compact textbook?

I'm sure some of you have picked up on this, but what is the real discussion here? The topic jumps from evolution to abiogenesis. Please make up your mind.

    how is faith flawed?

you put your faith in something because you believe whole heartedly in it

science is supposed to be factual and 100% flawless.
its by nature of the definition supposed to be like that
id like to know where the fuck you get your definitions from

how is science supposed to be FACT and 100% flawless when there are things like the big bang called THEORIES

heres the def of a theory

a proposed explanation whose status is still conjectural, in contrast to well-established propositions that are regarded as reporting matters of actual fact.

and heres a little definition of science for ya

The observation, identification, description, experimental investigation, and theoretical explanation of phenomena.

    but i digress

the term god has the biggest flaws, because:

    A) How many religions have a god? Isnt there just one god to you? So how can that be?

    B) He doesnt answer your prayers, its just the natural course of things happening.

    C) If "your" god is the right one that would mean that like 75% of the worlds population is going to your hell, some god huh?

    D) The term god is used for anything that people cant explain, just like how you people are ragging on others for their belief in the big bang, its just as absurd for you all to believe some invisible camo guy did the same.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------

So its rather funny to see you all argue about something like the bigbang when theres no way to prove it at all as of yet. Plus the fact that you people who believe in this god are so quick to judge and say the big bang is crap yet you follow blindly in believing in some god that you cant prove exists either.

I mean your only proof is you believe, yet there are plenty of others who feel the exact opposite as you. So how do you think your right? Oh yea i remember you have faith. Just like people have faith in football teams that lose, ill take my chances with being agnostic.

Its called random mutation that resulted in a dominant trait. Im not saying it doesn't have its flaws, because it most certainly does. BTW I am in no way religious.

    i'm not that religious either

but i think to believe that we are simply here on our own and are only purpose is to advance technology and biogenetically enhance the next generaion is nothing but depressing.

you have to believe in something bigger then yourself to keep a positive attitude on a day to day basis

the book is open to interpretation imo
if you believe that word for word then you are in fact a moron because the book was written by human beings so naturally it will be flawed.

the stories are written to give you morals and a way to live your life and be a good person.

its just like children's books teaching kids good values.
if you believe that there are talking trains and big red dogs running around outside then you might need to be smacked

if you believe in the bible then you believe it is the word of god written by man. how you believe it should be interpeted is up to you but disputing that fact kinda contradicts believing it; IMO. it is all or none you must believe it word for word or you do not have faith in it.

    Only if you're Catholic...

I am a Christian and I've never been told to take the Bible word for word.

That said I do believe in evolution to an extent. On the topic of the creation of the universe, can't say that I believe the Big Bang BS or the 7 days thing, though I do believe that the 7 days is not to be taken literally and how long is a day to the big man anyways?

um i'm just wondering how you can be christian but say you don't believe the bible word for word? isn't basically saying i'm christian but i believe what i want to believe, so in essence your not christian.

i don't think anything can be proven/disproven when it is based on theory instead of facts. i know what my senses can tell me anything out of that scheme requires faith. if you can think of it then it is possible.

are you serious? so god created EVERYTHING! Space/Planets/ect.

i don't think so...... Earth is NOT the only planet with life on it. God didn't just one day say.. im gonna create life.... and boom it happened....

Earth as existed for over 4 billon years.... Jesus Christ isn't even that old

that is the most moronic thing i have ever heard.

when you find life on another planet come back and argue this
but until you base your arguments off of theories then you can not possibly go and attack someone else's beliefs for believing in God.

is this a topic about the big bang theory or a athiest's thought process

The soul is not materialistic but how do you explain entites roaming on the earth as even by QD he acknowledges that are entities roaming around the earth? If we have feelings and emotions where does the come from then? Where? There is no body part that says I hate you or I'm happy. It's random so must come from somewhere like a soul.
If you READ the first part of the bible it will explain EVERYTHING !!!! GOD CREATED THE HEAVENS AND THE EARTH!!!! He expanded !!!!

Well if QD said that there's entities roaming around then it must be true!!!

And the reason we have feelings and emotions is because we have developed a conscience(sp?) we are civilized and domesticated over many years. Hating someone or liking someone is not random it has to do with what we have been taught, and what has been passed down to us.

P.S. The first part of the bible has no metion of dinosaurs...i would really like to know where they fit in in the theory of creationism....so it doesnt explain EVERYTHING.
