upgrade from epiphone. get a good condition used guitar...nothing too nice incase you give up and quit playing. maybe a used fender stratocaster? or try to borrow a guitar from a friend for a month or so and see how you like it. id say more people quit playing guitar than people that keep with it, borrow your first guitar.....

maybe get a cheap used accoustic? i got two broken ones for $100 and fixed them for another 50 and a little TLC.
