Default Utilities costs in a house?

    Hey guys,

So I am being relocated to the Kennesaw area, and will probably be living in a house somewhere within a 10 mile radius of George Busbee.

I am exploring my living options, trying to get an idea on utilities costs for a 1600-2000 sqft , 3br/2ba house that will be occupied by 3 working dudes in their 20's.

Looking for electricity, water, garbage, cable/internet and anything else I may have forgotten.

    The help is much appreciated!

    Thanks,
    -Daniel

What in the hell are you doing? Right now I pay about $100 month for gas and $60-70 for electricity. In the summer, it's about $30-40 a month for gas and about $110-130 for electricity. This is all in a 4bdrm/2.5bth/2story house (about 2500sq/ft).

Gas could be cheaper if you are on the budget plan. fixed amount each month, even through the summer. Allows you to budget better.

Anyway, taking the average a month throughout the year I would say about $ 250-300 for gas and electric(together. again, AVERAGE), about $ 10 a month for garbage (40 every 3 months), $ 120 for cable, high speed and about $ 40 bucks a month for water + sewer. (based on 3 people). Phone is depending on plan, but you can bundle cell and home for about $ 80 a month.

I would say about $ 500 - $ 600 a month in utilities is about fair. Split that in 3 and it is about $ 200 each. This could go as low as about $ 150-120 in low months, but you get the idea...

    Thanks for the responses guys!

Question: Are houses built within the last 10 years hybrid gas/electric? Or are they mostly electric? My current duplex is electric only, and I have heard that it is cheaper.

Any ideas? I'm hoping that the cost comes down to $300-350 on average, but who knows.

    Thanks again,

    -Daniel

Awesome. That's good news. I'm going to be doing the same thing. Just waiting to see if my current roomates land jobs in the area as well so I don't get stuck paying rent on a house by myself. I'm looking in the range of $900-1250/mo max before utilities.

    Thanks for the help,

    -Daniel

heat through electricity is cheaper, to a certain extent. u have to realize gas does she heated up much quicker and is easier to keep it at that a certain temp.
