    Default Abortion Doctor Killer

    Abortion doctor's killer convicted again

BUFFALO, N.Y. - A man already serving time in a state prison for the sniper-shooting death of a doctor was convicted Thursday on a federal charge of targeting and killing the man because he provided abortions.

The jury deliberated about four hours over two days before deciding James Kopp violated the federal Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act in the 1998 slaying of Dr. Barnett Slepian.

Kopp, who represented himself during the two-week trial, tried to convince jurors during his closing arguments that he didn't mean to kill Slepian when he fired from woods into the doctor's Amherst home. Kopp said he intended only to wound him to prevent him from performing abortions the next day.

"If it happened the way I wanted it to, he would have his arm in a sling," said Kopp, who is serving a 25-year-to-life state sentence.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Kathleen Mehltretter argued Kopp's long and careful planning of the shooting and his choice of weapon _ a Russian military assault rifle _ proved his deadly intent.

"If you want to injure a person, you don't shoot them with a high-powered rifle," Mehltretter said.

Kopp fled to Mexico, Ireland and France, where he was captured in March 2001. He had been added to the FBI's list of the Ten Most Wanted fugitives in June 1999.

Slepian's wife, Lynne Slepian, smiled and hugged prosecutors after the verdict Thursday. She then left to call her sons, declining to talk to reporters.

Federal prosecutors will seek a prison term of life without parole, U.S. Attorney Terrance Flynn said. Sentencing is set for June 19.

"Hopefully, this will give (Lynne Slepian) what she's always wanted, that she will never have to go to any state parole hearings," Flynn said.

Kopp would be in his 70s before becoming eligible for parole on his 2003 second-degree murder conviction.

Most jurors left the courthouse without commenting Thursday. "He was guilty, and the evidence proved it," a female juror said on her way out.

"We just went by the law," a male juror added.

    Both declined to identify themselves.

Abortion is murder, but two wrongs don't make a right. If the guy felt so strongly about it he should of done something legal to fight abortion.

I don't see how someone can say that abortion isn't murder. I't is takeing of a human life. Support it or not, it is murder. So why is it ironic that this guy also was murdered.

Nope. What the guy did was wrong, but i realy don't see it as ironic. If you steal from people, is it ironic when your own house gets robbed? Call it karma or whatever you want, but the doctor killed unborn children, and he was killed. What's ironic about that.

Irony- "an incongruity between the actual result of a sequence of of events and the normal or expected result"

Soo.... if you steal from others the expected result is that it would get around and you would suffer theft= not ironic

ok jackass, now ur just gettin annoying. let's take ur dimwitted example. someone who went out to rob someone would NOT expect their own house to be robbed while they're gone correct? i mean who DOES expect their house to be robbed while they're away doing ANYTHING? do u comprehend that? if so then take ur google definition and apply it, if u cannot and/or it does not make sense to u still then just accept the fact that u are a moron.

No, it is accepted in most theologies, or philosophies that "what goes around comes around" if you will. Therefore It is not "ironic" that someone suffers the same wrong that they commit. That scenario is better described as "poetic justice". Again refer to my definition of irony if you are still confused.

Pro abortion...why? Because it's a hell of a lot better to kill one person who didn't even know what was going on then have a whole society suffer financially from a baby born into poverty. I know that's not always the case, but kids who aren't offered a great childhood, whether it be shitty young parents or money problems, usually grow up to be shit in this world. You can walk around east Atlanta and see why these people needed a hanger years ago.

and that is coming from a registered Republican.

so in the same spirit, lets go kill all homeless, drug addicted, and otherwise useless people to our society. How about people in prison for life? They are a huge expense to tax payers, and have already demonstrated what they will make out of their life.

i don't give a fuck what theologies or philosophies believe in "what goes around comes around", that has no bearing on what the meaning of irony is and how it's used. maybe ur so ignorant that u can't even see outside of one lame example u've come up with. say i hate pets and can't stand the dog i have, now say i decide to take such dog to the humane society to give it away, wouldn't it be IRONIC if i came home and found out my gf just went out and bought a new puppy? open ur eyes (and more importantly ur mind) u simpleton.

How are those issues linked? Capital punishment is the PUNISHMENT of death for a CRIME. What has a child done to justify its killing?

You're and idiot for bringing that up. "What goes around comes around" yes yes, that's relevant! A doctor, who went through years of schooling to help people HOWEVER said people wanted to be helped, in this case mothers wanting abortions, should deserve to die because he's extinguishing a potential life. Forgetting the fact that an unborn child hasn't even developed genuine consciousness yet.

You people crack me up. You spend so much time pissing and moaning about people "taking life" through abortion, when there's thousands upon thousands, of lives that could be improved upon if people as a whole ever gave a shit. Personally I'd rather fight for the life of a homeless person, than fight for the life of something that only just falls within the boundaries of being "alive". I'm not saying I have something against babies, but in the early stages of development, an unborn child does not yet, posses the same qualities as a mature human being.

Granted I think third trimester abortions are pretty fucking awful, but still, we've got plenty of people on this overly human populated planet who deserve to have their quality of life improved upon, maybe we as people should put more emphasis on the value of established life, rather than potential life.
