Thread: Her name is Leroy

    Default Her name is Leroy

I guess I fit in here

So I picked her up about two years ago. It's a 1980 Toyota Pickup SR5 with the almighty 90 horse 20r. I'm pretty sure it wasn't even making that much though.

First night it was home the rear got lowered 3 inches. Ignore the tires, they got painted with the wheel since they were getting replaced the next day.

I cleaned it up and rode around like that for a while. I was just happy to have a clean-ish gas sipper for the time.

Then i got the front down level with the rear

Then i went a little lower

    New headlight buckets and corners

    Then the BBS's

Trying to get a little closer to being flush

    New grill

    Buff and wax

Then lowered the rear some more. Yes I know the fender is a shade off and it sits uneven now. I can't go any lower in the front without drop spindles which are coming this month.

Then I had an idea... I couldn't make the fit though

So this is where i am as of yesterday. The motor crapped out on me on my way to the East side starbucks meet. (I blame it on the kaleidoscope doa sticker. Bad mojo lol) So I figured it was time start on my swap i've been talking about forever now. Throwing out the 20r in favor of a fresh 99 original mile 2rz. It was flipped two days after it was bought in 96. A family member gave it to me. I've never seen this swap done in a 80 so i'm going to give it a shot. I've got pretty much all my turbo stuff aside form the turbo. Mani is in the works and i'm using alot off of my 240. So here's the pics of the motor swap progress. Stay tuned for more updates later this week i'm sure.

I love this truck already. And I'm personally glad to see you keep the swap in the family.

And I'm also 100% happy that your "idea" didn't work, lolol. I started to go to that meet last night. Keep it up. Later, QD.

I was wondering how you were gonna do that. Those trucks have a very specific oil pan, it bit me in the ass a few years ago. Glad you got that worked out. Good luck with the build!

Yea I almost just did a v8 swap originally but I figured I'd come up with something. I've always wanted to do this swap so I'll just deal with everything it throws at me. Now i really need to find a semi cheap intake manifold that isn't bigger than the damn motor.

Bad truck! I wish my Datsun truck was running. I like the bbs wheels, don't stick those other ugly rims on there.

I love datsun pickups! Second to toyotas of coarse. And these wheels are staying untill I get some works or something.

Nice truck man. I personally LOVE the look of the BBS on there. It sits real nice and the wheels look great with that paint.

Good luck with the swap and let me know if you need a hand

I can always use a hand haha!

Thanks for all the compliments guys.

Now... Clutch stuff is on the opposite side, shouldn't be to hard. Tucking the harness, making room for the front mount. Just got my turbo mani and HAVE to cut off that ugly ass wastegate flange, just lacking a turbo now. Anyone have a t3/t4 for sale? I cut the battery tray out, i'll relocate it to the bed. I'm making progress though. I also picked up the paint for the engine bay. Mocha Frost... gonna be sexy

And she's in! Working on the motor mounts and oil pan still but it's a good motivator seeing it in there. The mounts i'm making will bring it back up a few inches. It sits kinda low right now.

Also started doing some of the body work in the bay. This is the color i'm going with but it looks nothing like the picture. It's Mocha Frost, kind of a real light gold I guess. Also some primer in the picture too if that helps tell the difference.

Haha whats going on man? I didn't know you were over here too.

Alright got the motor and tranny mounts made today. It's where it is going to stay now so I can start on the oil pan. I might be able to just section the factory one but we'll see. Here's some good pictures finally so ya'll can see whats going on.

The best part is that it all fits under the hood... barely. I was kind of worried about it, but we're good.

Btw ignore the steel tube on the motor mount in the last picture. That was just a spacer while I was getting it to go in. Also you can see the color on the driver side fender well that i'll be using now too.

So I made negative progress last weekend. I didn't like my motor mounts so I started over from scratch. They were super ugly and I just wasn't happy with them. So these are the new ones. They're made out of scrap steel so once again i'll make some better looking ones but this is the final design.

Also started on the oil pan. I'm just sectioning the stock 20r pan and using the 2rz flange. Once I finish that up and mod the oil pickup I'll start on the wiring. Shouldn't be much longer now. I'm getting excited lol

I've got a lot more done but no pictures. That one wheel looked crappy after I sprayed it (you can see in the pictures) but I re-did it and all the rest look awesome. Shouldn't be too much longer before it's on the road now and not a wheel rack anymore lol
