Default What makes your old school car special?

I know we have a huge variety of old school cars here.

So whats makes YOUR old school car special? stupid-crazy rare parts? engine swap? whatcha got?

    I'll go first.

My car is a 1986 Mitsubishi Starion. This was the first year of the widebody and this factory color is extremely rare. i get alot of shit from Starquest guys cuz i dont really give a crap about that though. But i'll probably get it painted something to the stock color.

So anyways i think the big thing with my car is the engine. I'm running a Megasquirt with a Ford distributor-less ignition system. I've also got the intake manifold swapped to a standard direct port injection system with a ford 4.6L throttle body, and all my sensors are GM sensors. just a bunch of weird stuff. heres a couple pictures. A friend is modding my aluminum radiator to better clear my intercooler pipes.

So i gotta say i don't know alot about the rest of your old school cars, so show me whatcha got!

Mine really dosn't leave the garage. People across the street think it is a tool bench.

Mine was built in 3 days form a crashed car and a stripped shell. Mine is sort of a sleeper. Um... it makes me happy? lol

^^ Yeah, I drew a frame of a man running on each fan blade. That is him running at idle

I own mine. Thats what makes em special.

On a more serious note. My truck is Rust free other than Patina with no dents anywhere on it. EXTREMELY rare to find a 71 521 like that.

My 4Runner is boosted with a T3/T4 and a lot of attitude. Like a fat girl in a trailer park.....attitude.

A couple of things seem to make my car stand out as being special aside from the fact that I love this car and it's my first real follow through on a (partial) restoration.

In the import tuning world, the Honda Civic is undeniably the most modified car. But I'm pretty much the only one around the meets and "scene" that drives the older version of it.

Also, unlike most other models of old school Japanese cars, parts for my car are very hard to come by, and when you do, they are usually pretty expensive. I've watched cigarette lighters go for $100. Factory 8-track players go for well over $400. Nobody makes parts for these cars. The only way you can get wheels for the car is to wait until someone puts theirs up for sale or do a lug conversion to adapt to the wheels that are still made.

So for being in the lineage of the most popular car in the world, I have the rarest. Later, QD.

I have never seen another Sentra Wagon on the road or even in person for that fact. It still has the AM/FM radio with turn knobs.

69 toyota crown is rare, esp in a 4-speed. It is special because it is basically the only atttempt to bring a "full size" japanese car to america in the late 60/early 70's. My truck has been owned by a man named Charles since 1974. My name and the previous' owners name of course. And my B210 is the model car for the ads in 1977. so i guess they are special, at least to me.

What makes my old school whips the special is that MY ass has been on the drivers seat. I may even autograph the hoods of my 3 beasts to make them more gangsta.

    TNOMUD- Killer dude....

My '53 Plymouth and your sedan should be friends...You don't have another 53 plate anywhere do you ? Did you get it registered so you could use the old plate ? I'd love to learn about that...

my car isnt as old as most of you in here, but i just like it because it so basic. nowadays there are sensors for other sensors, just too much in my opinion.

plus, once i put this klde in it, it will be one of a kind.

My 1980 MGB. The MGB is noted as being the most popular sports car of all time. Production ran from 1963 to 1980. Mine is a 1980 model, hard to find, and mine is a California car. In the MGB world, California editions have subtle changes from the regular MGB making it more rare. Also, the color, "Pagent Blue" is very hard to find. Also mine has the electronic overdrive transmission, another very vary rare option. basicially it's a manual 4-speed with an switch on the shifter knob that electronically switches the car into OD.

I has been restored to slightly modified stock, I switched to the twin SU carbs, bored it out .30 over and decked the head. Obviously I changed out the wheels, although I still have the complete stock set. I redid the interior black and put in heated seats and a small amplified system.

Next is my 1969 Datsun 2000. I haven't had this car very long, it's rare for what it is. Still has the factory hardtop, 47000 or so original miles. If I am correct on my research, there were only 15,000 of these made all together between 1967-1970. Mine is lowered, mazda miata seat conversion; both done by the previous owners.

It is undergoing total restoration now and should be driveable by Spring 2010.

Lastly, my 1970 Lotus EUROPA S2. For starters, it's a Lotus. Secondly, only only 9800 Europa's were made period. Of those 9800, there were different series, mine is a S2 (series 2) type 65/xxxx(meaning numbers follow that 65, mine is 65/3701. Of the type 65/xxxx's, they were only produced between March of 1969 and December of 1969, during that time, only 352 were produced, mine is dated November 1969, meaning it is one of the last of the 352. Also, it has a full fiberglass body, weighs 1400lbs WITH engine. The car is the FIRST EVER mid-engine production car, and was built to be a street legal F1 car.

It is 3rd on the restore list, after the Datsun and after my 1990 RX7. I anticipate a 5-7 year frame off restore for this car.

    That's my collection!

My cars are all Uber rare European Fords. they only sold my Scorpio in the states for 2 years and XR4TI for 5years. The reason my Beamer is rare is the "I.S." designation for the chassis. stuff like a factory LSD,5SPD, paired with the 7 series 3.5 L6 and //M body work make it pretty rare.
