The thing about the Fc is that it was made in the late 80s, the starting o fa new era and fighter-jet- like chiseled interiors. I don't think the 85 year cutoff is there because 1980s was a while ago, I think it's because cars like the FB, which are below that line, feel more like they're from the 70s. Everything is mechanical, no ECU, all tuning done with screws and wires, not with a chip and sensors. The interior has a flow without many interruptions due to the lack of technology. It isn't the matter of missing the deadline by one year that makes me think the FC doesn't fit in, it's in a whole different era of car styling and function. It was built to prepare for the late 80/early 90s, and because it was in a relatively high class,it was just a little early to the game, but different era none-the-less.
Not compleatly true, my 84 gsl-se classifies as an OS ride, and it was just as smooth, and reliable as my 89 gxl, right up untill i cut the prings and put the 2 1/2 inch exhaust, with the 3rd stage clutch, then it was rough, and i never had problems starting it either, even with the cold start assist removed, and emmission crap removed it never faild to start at the first turn of the key, even tho it was an 84, it came with electric windows and mirrors, electric antena, fuel injected 13b with big ass primaries only, and a ecu, u dont need to be carburated or hav a car that wont start to be OS, i loved my SE and it was my inspiration for my gxl, with it im aming towards an oldskool look with some new skool punch,
So for me, in my opinion my gxl is an OS ride just because the fc plataform is overlooked and people dont understand the potential of them in both styling and performance, but dats how i see it, but what do i know..

But your 84 is the 1st gen body. The 86 body style started the FC series. Thus knocking it out of contention for complete OS-ness. The only thing really OS about the FC is it looks like a bigger version of the FB. Later, QD.

GSL-SE = prototype for the FC, but still it's in the good 'ole primitive live-axle unrefined late 70 sport chassis. I understand this is contorversial, but one of the reasons the first gen group I run with like the first gens and other old school cars is the sacrafices and effort one puts fourth into keeping them running. not saying an old school car has to suck, be hard to drive, and annoying, but it adds to the respect that you still see it on the road. I don't know it's hard to say, but I think the Fc made it into the group of cars where things all of a sudden just got "easier".

and as for one year making a difference, I was trying to say the FC is still lumped with a whole 'nother era of cars. That's why I lumped "feel" into the assessment of classification. It really is a toss up with your definition of "old school".

^^ Yeah, I drew a frame of a man running on each fan blade. That is him running at idle
