How much would you guys hate me if I swapped a 302 into my FB? Don't reply to this post unless you have considered all bonuses of a 302 swap (gas mileage, power, reliability, maintenance).![]()

I dunno man. I love the FB for its styling 1st. The performance and efficiency/reliability is questionable.Originally Posted by quickdodge®
I have a question though for anyone who automatically shuns the 302 or any V8 swap in an RX7. Why? Just because its a Ford engine in an import? I just don't see why its such a big deal to so many people. I won't even THINK of posting this kind of stuff on RX7club, I'd get banned, rofl.

Because true classic import enthusiasts don't go against the grain like that. I've NEVER been a fan of brand-swapping. People putting Chevy engines in Porsches and shit like that? Hardcore classic Japanese car fans have no room for that. You have a Mazda so it should be a Mazda engine under the hood. It just takes away from the nostalgia of the car. You want a Chevy engine, buy a Chevy. That's the way it is viewed. Later, QD.Originally Posted by SKarpenz

Ok. Well first off. You will need to figure out your ignition. The problem with putting an old 302 or any with a distributor is that Fords are in the front of the motor...therefore you will have a nice fat boy distributor poking from your hood.Originally Posted by SKarpenz
I had an FB with a 400 Small Block in it. WORST driving car I ever set foot in. The hood latch had to be cut out for the Chevy dist which is in the back of the motor. The carb with breather on it, even with a low rise intake was JUST flush with the hood. Meaning, there was still a hole in the hood but the only thing you realy saw sticking up over the sail line was the bolt and wingnut of the carb. Had a Checellve rear end under it, cut down and a turbo 350 trans.
Also had cinder blocks wired into the rear end to make it get traction. Drove like 4 fat bitches in a Hyundai. If you were going in a straight line, it was the Batmobile....soon as you hit your first turn, either you were under 30 mph or you were in the trees.
Unless you got a good bit of money to throw at it to do it right. Don't bother wasting your time.

If you're gonna do it, overdo it.

ummm bro i wouldnt hate u at all, but i will consider the fact that u will be destroying a car by putting in a 302.. the car's power to weight ratio will change and thats what RX7s are best known for, other than the rotary engine its powered by..Originally Posted by SKarpenz
Seriously you should build yourself a 13T (turbo II) motor and swap that in, it'll be more fun and of course it'll be all Mazda.. just how Jay Leno swapped a bridge-ported 12A motor and tranny into his R-100.. please to keep it true, from heart and soul.
Then again i cant argue with your decision to swap in a 302 motor.. it is your car and your money, so do what u want. I will respect your you either way but not your car, even though i would love to see it lol!!
SKarpenz i will say this though.. if you swap it... swap it right.. dont just throw shit together and make it look like shit because RX7's are not shit..on your project and go ahed with your future project
