    Default Too close for comfort

    Well today at work we had a nurological cat (had these symptoms for 2 days now) bite one of the techs.. we ended up putting the cat to sleep because of blood levels and such.. and to be safe we cut off the head and sent it to the cdc.. They will be testing it for rabies and we should have the results earliest on Friday. I am still a bit nervous as I was holding the cats and I have a few scratches on my hand.. If it comes up positive.. everyone who touched the cat has to get a rabies vaccines.. (well series of them)... Even if it comes back negative I still think im going to get one..

    #1 we werent allowed to take pics.. and #2 yes.. the only way to test an animal for rabies is to cut off the head..

    wow rly? i didn't kno that.... the only way is to cut off its head. What happens? like.... does some sorta oooze come out? i thought u'd test its saliva or somethuing....wierd... thanks for educating me... u had no idea.

    WTF, how is the only way to test for it to cut its head off?

    That sounds a bit excessive.

    And who cares, its just a series of shots? It isn't anything serious. If you are wanting to be a Vet but scared of getting a shot because of rabies I think you're in the wrong profession.

    The test has to be done on the brain.. and so you send off the head... Rabies can be fatal if not treated.. they have a series of shots they give in your hip which is the treatment...

    No.. they usually dont test people.. If you have been bitten or even touched an animal with rabies.. they will treat you no matter what..
